hd2000fxdl
Ok, I have been having problems for the last few days and think I have corrected it. The spec's of my system will be listed below. I was getting BSOD's left and right, they were all diffrent, it was a trouble shooters nightmare. Well I thought there can't be that many diffrent things that start going wrong when I didn't change anything at all. Well I tried Memtest, it showed no errors (i'll get back to this). Next I check the poewr supply, all numbers were in spec and not even on the low side so I felt good but had a second one laying around that was a 430w unit so I checked everything with that one, all checked out good. I connections to the computer except what was needed, I had a keyboard, floppy, drive, mouse, cd drive, and my monitor hooked up. I even used a diffrent video card from another computer that was known to be good. Well I did everything you can think of and then some, I replace all the cables on my SATA drives, MoBo (well I wanted to do this anyway), and did complete reintall of the system. I am not talking about a repair, I am talking full reinstall, will FULL format not the quick. I was able to get it loaded 2 diffrent times but I was right back to BSOD's. Well I pulled 1 of the 2 sticks of memory out, still BSOD. Pulled that one out and replaced it with the other stick and everything seemed ok. I know strange that Memtest didn't pick this up. Well at this point I an a few days into it, I get everything loaded on with the 1 stick configuration and running very well. I decide to just double check to see if it really was the 1 bad stick. Well I took the known good one out and tried to boot with the other one and BSOD just after restart. I tried all configurations 1 in s1, 1 in s1,and 1 in s3, s1-s2, reverse each of the configurations and BSOD on each and every one that I had that second stick of memory. The only thing I couldn't check is with a diffrent stick of memory to isolate slots 2 and 3 having a buggy connection, but I feel I coverd that anyway with installing a new MoBo and the old one doing the same think. Well I have to write in here for advice and maybe something that I might have missed before I request a RMA, anyone, any ideas. Also this was a matched set 1G ttl with 2 512's, What happens to my matched set on RMA if only one is bad. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 First thing, your PSU may not be big enough based on your configuration. I would really suggest a 550 Watt PSU Min with that many drives. And I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and the test the modules one at a time with wwww.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing.
hd2000fxdl
Yes I did have questions about the PSU and checked everything out to see what v's I had. They all looked good, however to further evaluate this problem I did a few more things. First off I have an Actec 480W PSU hooked up to the system, the 480w PSU in connected to the MoBo and DVD and floppy drived only. I have a second, a 420W Thermaltake PSU hooked up to the 4 sata drived and the 5 fans on the system. (yea if I turn up the fan speeds to max it sounds like a prop plane :-) . Again after hooking up the second PSU I tried all memory configurations. The only time I get all diffrent types of BSOD's is when I use just that one stick of memory either alone or when installed with the other one that works well. Oh and by the way the Dim Voltage was tried at 2.7, didn't want to not address the additional trouble shooting idea you mentioned. One more note: It does seem that all things are pointing to this one stick being bad, and if so and I RMA it, being that it was sold as a matched set would both sticks be replaced or just that bad one. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 1, 2005 Yes, you should send both modules so they match! Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
