bobboss
I have followed advice that I have seen posted here and purchased (2) sticks of XMS DDR400 memory. Processor is P4 2.8, FSB = 533MHz Recieved and installed yesterday TWIN1024-3200C2. I am using slots 1 & 2 no problem. DDR Reference Voltage changed from AUTO to [2.70V] Memory Frequency to [333MHz] I noticed several comments saying that these modules must be run at DDR266 with the 845 chipset. Am I going to cause problems/damage at 333?? Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 25, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 25, 2005 If your system is stable you should be fine at DDR333!
bobboss
I haven't done a ton of reading on changing BIOS settings, overclocking, etc, so forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject. My original 2 modules (Corsair CMX256A-2700C2) which were just replaced are listed as DDR333 on the newegg website. Does that refer to the memory frequency? Thanks for the help. Wired
Yes, 333 = memory speed.
bobboss
OK - one step at a time I guess. If the old modules PC2700 are DDR333 (recommended by ASUS), why would one need to run the newer technology PC3200 at DDR266??

bobboss
Earlier thread I've been checking these boards for about a month as I have been planning to upgrade for awhile. I liked the idea of using newer technology. -bob
Wired
With that chipset you would need to run the memory at DDR266 with more than one module. good question!
bobboss
Still wonderin about this one -bump
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 I think the questions have been answered. What is it exactly you want to know?
bobboss
I have two modules and the Intel 845 chip set refered to in the earlier thread. My system seems to be stable, but your recommendation is that the DDR266 setting in BIOS being lower than what the original chips were run at. I don't understand why such a down shift is being recommended.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 1, 2005 This chipset/Motherboard will run DDR333, but that is with one module. With more than one module DDR266 was suggested. Now that is not to say you cannot run at DDR333, just that is whats suggested. But I would test your system with http://www.memtest.org to make sure it's stable. And the modules should be in slots 1-3.
bobboss
OK, just got around to the D/L of MemTest-86 v3.2 and running multiple passes on my system. 1ST Test: running new modules at DDR333 in Slot 1 & 2 showed repeat failures- Test#5 [bLOCK MOVE, 64 MOVES] only. Memory location 00039057230 and 0003a05721. Bad Bits were 00004200. This error happened on each of 4 passes. 2nd Test: same modules now at DDR266 in Slot 1 & 3 showed nearly the same result. Only Test #5 again [bLOCK MOVE,64 MOVES]. Memory location this time - off by one digit: 00029057230 and 0002a057210. Again occuring on each of 4 passes. Assumption: Test results rather insignificant, wait for something worst to occur - Everything seems to be doing all right at DDR333. or Something now might actually be wrong with these modules?? Any feedback on this ??? Thanks -bob
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 4, 2005 Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
