Can't control ML fans

Hello, I'm having some really frustrating issues as I've been trying to solve this for over a month and even requested an RMA for my hub and still have the same issue.

Problem is I have Commander Pro connected to USB 1314 on my ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO while the RGB hub is connected to commander pro or USB 1112 and the lighting is not working with the software.

I can partially control the first ML fan, however, the top light is either a bright white or it's dark while the other fans are just dark.

How many fans do you have?

Have you tried reordering them on the hub?

Are you positive that they are ML fans? I ask this b/c we had someone else that insisted, up and down, that they had HD fans when they actually had SP - so can you show the part number as well as the iCue configuration screen?

Yes, they are all ML pro fans, I bought three 120 ML fans and two 140's that came with the RGB hub & lighting node pro.

If I rearrange the order of the fans on the hub 2 works fine in 1 and then if I put fan 1 back onto the 1 port Fan 2's light gets frozen and is uncontrollable but on.

What did this other guy need to do to solve this?

Here's my 140 box and one of my 120's.

140: CO-9050078-WW

120: CO=9050075-WW

Well, testing the fans one at a time on port 1 is only 1/2 of the story. The fans operate in serial - like Christmas tree lights. It's entirely possible that 1 fan works fine but doesn't pass the signal down. Kinda like the drunk uncle at Christmas that won't pass the mashed potatoes. So ... you need to test each fan on port 1 with another fan on port 2.

Each fan has the same result as the first where 3 lights work but the top is either dark or bright white.

I wonder if it's a compatibility issue with my motherboard since this is my second hub, I have a pro and a lighting node pro and I doubt they are all faulty.

No, I doubt that it's a compatibility issue with the motherboard.

Are you saying, however, that every fan that's in the 2nd port exhibits this behavior?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've attempted to rearrange my SATA cables in my PC but it's still malfunctioning.

This is really frustrating, going to try them in another PC and see if that works and I'll update again once I do.

I'm starting to think maybe my open box Z170 Asus is the problem
