REPLACEMENT memory bad?

Was excited to get my replacement stick in the mail for a XMS3200 512 mb 400 MHZ, RMA # R68152, but i have the exact same problem I had before! I suspect the replacement stick is bad as well but i know the probability of this occuring is very small!

System is a Gigabit 7n-400 Pro and athlon 2500/333 fsb (barton), no overclocking of any kind.

replacement memory is a corsair CMX512-3200C2, xms3202v1.2, 0408033-0

1. With the suspected bad memory in the 1st slot, the computer refuses to POST and gives the POST beep code for DRAM failure.

2. The computer boots fine with a known good ram in the 1st slot.

3. With the known good stick in the first slot and the suspected bad stick in the other, the computer boots fine but when I check the bios it only reads the ram for the 1st stick, it's as if the second stick was never put in at all!

Any advice, please help this has been extremely frustrating and I'd hate to have to get a replacement for the replacement!

What are the working parameters of the good stick?

It is a kingston KHX4000/512R, CL3.

What has baffled me is the Corsair stick had worked fine for nearly a year when i started getting spontaneous restarts, GPFs, etc. Eventually the system would refuse to post at all. Someone else speculated this could have been due to a BIOS upgrade (they had a leadtek board, I have asus).

Anyways, now the replacement stick is acting like the faulty stick was in the late stages of its terminal illness.

I've noticed a lot of people with faulty xms3200 series ram getting RMAs. Is there a known trend with them being faulty or is this just coincidence?

Not a good sign. Motherboard may be shorting out memory? Test the Corsair memory in another board if possible.

NO. This is a technical support forum and as such people only come here when they have problems.

Quick clarification: the replacement stick came straight out of the box and failed to work AT ALL, the computer never POSTed. I will try to find another computer to test it on, in the meantime do you have any suggestions/theories?

You might check the socket and make sure one of the pins is not bent where the memory is installed. But other than that testing the module or modules in another system would be best to isolate the memort from your system. If you do find one of our modules has failed then please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
