happaflapp
I am relatively new to the whole dual channel ram thing (but have built several pc's before this), and I seem to have a problem on my hands. I'm not quite sure what settings I should use for this memory. I keep getting cmos/gpnv checksum bad at post. If I go into bois and change anything (including date and time), it won’t post at all and then I have to clear cmos to get back to square one. I also get the cmos settings wrong error to at post (but they alternate). I get the feeling that something isn't quite right with my memory settings and I need some help. I purchased crucial because I knew it was the best and I did go onto the mb compatibility part of crucials website and it said that it would work. I pretty sure I have it set up in dual channel and I hope the memory is good. I have only had the parts together for a day now and still no success. Any help and/or suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 24, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 24, 2005 This is Corsair, you do realize that right? At any rate if you have our modules please try them one at a time and go to bios setup and load setup defaults and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and test them one module at a time with http://www.memtest.org and lets make sure one is not failing. Oh, my bad...I do have Corsair ram (hence the vs1gbkit400). I was up late last night trying to figure this thing out, and had to get up at 5 a.m. this morning...got the two mixed up. Sorry. I will try the suggestion thanks.
kec789
That board has problems booting when in Dual Channel mode until you have BIOS 3.3 which fixes it. Only use 1 stick to get into windows and update the motherboard...My guess is you're still using bios 3.0.....
happaflapp
That board has problems booting when in Dual Channel mode until you have BIOS 3.3 which fixes it. Only use 1 stick to get into windows and update the motherboard...My guess is you're still using bios 3.0..... My board has that bios straight out of the box... I did eventually get it to boot though (in dual channel, I hope). I had my hyper transport frequency set at 1000 MHz, dialed it down to 800 MHz and it posted ok and booted. I'm not sure what it should be set at though, and why that would cause it to crash like that (and the msi handbook offers no help there). This is my first run at a 64 bit cpu and dual channel ram, so there is a learning curve. If any one can shed some light on the hyper transport frequency settings I would be very grateful
