CMX512-3200C2PT and Shuttle SN85G4 V3

I just got a Shuttle SN85G4 V3 and tried to install 2x CMX512-3200C2PT. The system can only see 512MB.

I have tried both modules individually in both slots of the motherboard and they work fine on their own. However when they are both installed the BIOS and Windows can only see 512MB. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Angelos

Hmmm, one of them is v3.1 and the other v1.2. I fear that this is causing the problem and I will have to send them back. By the way, I have just updated the BIOS with the latest release 31 Jan 05 and the problem remains.

Thanks,

Angelos

Thanks guys, it is always sad when you have problems with a new system but at least you tracked down the reason. The good news is that the supplier has accepted return of the goods and I have borrowed a matched pair of DIMMs from work until the replacements arrive.

Thanks again,

Angelos

Just a last question... the DIMMs I borrowed from work are Corsair ValueSelect VS1GBKIT400 CL2.5. Is there any benefit buying a matched pair of CL2 or should I just get the a ValueSelect CL2.5 kit which I know they work? I am told that Athon 64 works at CL2.5 and I would not benefit from faster DIMMs but I would appreciate it if someone can confirm this.

Cheers,

Angelos

Our XMS would have a bit better bandwidth, but they would actually be runnig close to the same settings. With this MB the difference would be nominal at best. So the choice is your's but our XMS should be ablout 1-3% better memory performance.

  • 9 months later...

I have the EXACT same issue...same motherboard, same RAM, but I'm way past my return date (2 years).

Since I need to replace the RAM anyway, I'm going to go ahead and replace the 512's with 1GB. Just wanted some advice on how to avoid the same error again.

Should I order a kit? Or can I purchase them seperately and just check the item numbers when I go to purchase the second DIMM later?

your reply would be appreciated!
