kserus
Yesterday I finished my build that includes an H150i cooling an 8700k. While I was installing the radiator, I got confused and put 2 screws all the way through the radiator (via the screw holes for the fan/chasis). I didn't think anything of it, but a friend mentioned that doing that can puncture the radiator and damage the unit, even causing fluid to leak out and damage other components. How worried about this should I be? Is there any way to verify that I didn't damage it? It ran for a few hours setting stuff up and never got above 30C, and another hour playing BF1 in the 40C range, so for the moment it seems to be cooling properly. I opened it up and don't feel any liquid in there or see anything visibly wrong, but I'm still a little paranoid that I screwed something up. reii
Unscrew it, you will know right away if you have pierced the radiator
kserus
Sorry, probably wasn't super clear from the way I worded it - once I realized I was putting those 2 in incorrectly, I pulled them out and installed all of them correctly. It has run for 4 hours since and seems to be performing well without any obvious leaks - does that mean I likely dodged a bullet?
c-attack
You’re fine. Everyone does this at some point and the radiator is deliberately designed not to have a water channel in those areas. The bent fins will not affect your performance and there is virtually no heat dissipation in the extreme corners. All the work is done through the central area.
