HariSeldon
Hi all, My H80i is VERY noisy. I've installed the LINK app and set the profile to quiet but to no avail. Fan speed is 2000rpm + and it continually whirs as it spins up and down. As my core temps seem high as well, is this down to the cooler not corectly fitted to the CPU or maybe thermal paste? What sort of temps and fan speeds would you expect for an i7 5820K at stock clock? Regards, Hari
c-attack
Your coolant temperature (h80i v2 Temp) is a bit warm at 42C. If this is at normal idle conditions, it is a bit concerning. However, you must always take the room and case temps into consideration. In a 30C room in a hot day, you will be at 40C coolant 5 minutes after boot and there is nothing wrong with the cooler. What is your approximate room temperature? Your drive temp is only 31C, so I doubt it is 40C in the case. When the cooler starts to slip in performance like this, you can often see it on a cold boot or wake from sleep. The moment you power on, the coolant should be just above room temp. In the next 5-10 minutes is will slowly warm up to +4-7C over room temperature, depending upon CPU type and your power states. A cooler that is past its prime will continue to drift upwards, very slowly. It will also have difficulty shedding its heat. After you stop the load (gaming, rendering, etc), it should drop several degrees within seconds and several more over the next few minutes. It is stuck at the peak value, then either something is preventing the heat from escaping the case/radiator or the coolant cannot circulate properly. HariSeldon
Thanks - great info! Room temp is around 21c so that shouldn't be a problem. As I leave my PC on 24/7 I decided to see if that was an issue last night and powered it all down. Powering back on this morning it was silent for a few mins but then temps and noise back to these levels with PC just idling! Is it worth trying to reseat the cooler or is 2 years about the time I need to swap for a new one?
c-attack
Reseating won’t help with flow issues and if you routinely sit at 40C in a 21C room, I you have a partial blockage restricting the flow. It would be nice to have some additional concrete evidence if you are going to RMA through the warranty. Run a mild stress test like Intel XTU, Aida blend, or something similar. Do this with the machine on in a normal state, not right after a cold boot. 10 min is fine and check the before and end H80i temp. I would expect +8C at worst. DevBiker
Keep in mind, too, that the installation location and other components can also have an impact on the temperature of the coolant. If you have the cooler installed in the rear exhaust, just above your GPU, it'll be sucking in warm air from the GPU. This may result in an increase in coolant temperature. So it may be worthwhile to experiment with different install locations and/or get some measurements of the air that's actually going through the radiator. HariSeldon
Thanks again for the suggestions - I'll have a look at the location and run a stress test to get more data.
