toxikneedle
I've had 2 sticks of ram since I bought this computer. A CMX512-3200C2 and a CMX256-3200PT. Today I got a new stick, CMX256A-3200C2PT. When I have all 3 sticks in, I load to windows and then shortly after everything freezes, or I even got a BSOD one time. Any of the 2 256 sticks will work with the 512 fine, but no matter in which slot, all 3 will not work stable. Is there anyway I can make em work? Are they not supposed to work together maybe? All sticks are fine and are good btw. My rig: AMD64 3200+ Clawhammer Albatron K8X800 Pro

My rig: AMD64 3200+ Clawhammer Albatron K8X800 Pro I had similar issue with 3 sticks vs two, even though the third stick had more aggressive timing, the only way i could boot was to pull back the timing to the slowest (from the fastest) the mobo would support. Put this down to the additional load placed on the processor by the additional stick of ram. try pairing back the timings through custom setting and noth through SPD, put the slowest stick in slot 1 ive since ditched my twinX stick and run single 512, gonna buy another 512 to match um up
toxikneedle
Thing is, I don't know a lot about timings and ram in general, I know bios and where to change stuff and everything, but thats pretty much where it ends... I tried messing around with the timings but sometimes the pc wouldnt boot at all or it just wouldnt help and freeze still.... Id really appreciate it if someone can tell me how I should arrange the ram sticks and the timings, btw I dont care about some performance loss or anything, I just want all 3 of them to work. Here are the 3 sticks btw: CMX256A-3200PT 3-3-3-8 184 DIMM Platinum CMX512-3200C2 2-3-3-6 * 184 DIMM Black CMX256A-3200C2PT 2-3-2-6 * 184 DIMM Platinum
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 23, 2005 With this platform if you install more than one module DDR333 is suggested and can you tell me the bios settings you have set for memory and CPU? toxikneedle
My bios settings for the RAM timings are set to Automatic, I believe they are running on 2.5,3,3,8 right now (checking what cpu-z says) . My CPU is @ stock FSB 200x10. BTW, the 2 sticks I have in now are the cmx512-3200c2 and the cmx256a-3200c2pt.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 24, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 24, 2005 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and if you still have problems test the modules one at a time. But with thi8s MB with more than 2 modules you would need to run the memory at DDR333.
toxikneedle
So, I wont be able to overclock my FSB for the CPU?
toxikneedle
Alright, so I tried what you suggested, first at upping the voltage to 2.8 didnt help, froze right away. Then I set DDR to 333 and everything worked fine, I even tried it at 365, with the cpu fsb overclocked, and everything ran stable. Problem is the loading times didn't get any better from when i was using 768 and I ran 2 benchmarking programs which I got lower scores in (not by a lot though). I think what I will do for now is run at 768 with only 2 sticks and try to sell these 2 256 sticks to buy 1 512 stick... P.S. Is there anything I can do to make them run DDR400, I thought upping the voltage would do it, but I guess it didnt? or maybe not enough?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 24, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 24, 2005 I am sorry but you know I missed this before, CMX256A-3200PT 3-3-3-8 184 DIMM Platinum You cannot mix this module with the other modules you have.
