Questions regarding Push/Pull

Hey guys,

Had a question regarding push/pull with my Corsair H150i PRO. I wanted to mount 3 LL120 fans to front of my radiator as an intake so you can see the LED light up on my Corsair 500D SE. My question is would it be acceptable to use the stock ML 120 fans on the inside mounted to the radiator?

Also, I have read mixed thoughts about mounting the LL120 to radiators, should it be okay? Will my cooling take a hit?

It's absolutely fine and many people use the included ML-Quiet fans in a complimentary fashion. No, using a single set of LL120s will not affect your performance on the H150i and a 8700K, so certainly doubling up won't either. You have a lot of surface area and a relatively low TDP, even when overclocked. Plenty of cooler and no need for a lot of fan speed.

I use six ML120 Pro's in a push/pull configuration with my H150i Pro. I also have shrouds fitted on the exhaust side. I have batch script set to run as a scheduled task to briefly open and close Corsair Link after my PC boots to the desktop just to set the pump speed to performance. All the fans are connected to the motherboard. I have only one fan connected to the H150i and it is used to cool the VRM heatsinks.

I have a follow-up question when using a Push/Pull Config. Should they both be at the same RPM?

I currently am doing that with the h100iv2 but the two push fans are connected to the h100iv2 cable and the pull fans are connected to a Fan splitter I have connected to CHA_FAN1 along with 3 other case fans connected to that.

Wow, that is the coolest running system I've seen, wonderful! Also, may I commend you for the lack of bloatware in your taskbar notifications.

What bracket is that holding the fans that a) seem to be cooling the VRM and b) cooling the GPU? Also, I'm a little unclear, do you use a CoPro?

:D:Thanks. I only install the bare minimum. Other programs I use are all portables which I can open via the Context menu.

I made the fan bracket myself using a Dremel and a piece of aluminum strip.

No CoPro, 10 of the ML120's are connected to the motherboard's fan headers with fan splitters and is controlled automatically by the fan curves that I have set in the BIOS. For the case lighting I re-purposed a LED ring from one of the fans that originally came with the case and fitted it as a LED strip.

For the best performance the fans in a push/pull config should ramp up at the same time, even if using two separate motherboard fan headers as long as the BIOS fan curves are the same. Also make sure when multiple fans are connected together on a single fan header that the total current draw does not exceed 1Amp. Some motherboard manufactures do allow for more than 1Amp, but if it is not clearly specified 1Amp should be regarded as the maximum.

I also have an additional question. Would it be okay if the 3 LL120 fans mounted to the front of the radiator are connected to the CoPro and the 3 ML120s mounted to the back of the radiator are connected to the AIO 4 pin connections?

I plan on using icue to set the rpm for each fan to the same rate I just wasn't sure if it would cause any conflict to run this way.

That is a good way to do it. It solves the current balancing issue and allows control from the same set of variables. Fan speeds do not need to be perfectly synchronized. It takes a large difference to produce negative consequences. Some people prefer a slight bias one way or the other because of how the sound changes. That is certainly case and location specific.
