RabbitAteWire
Hello, my other half has this keyboard... corsair k95 platinum rgb mechanical gaming keyboard He's away and I wasn't paying attention to my house rabbit, who has now chewed the wire on this keyboard which I now discover to be insanely expensive. Can anyone help and tell me if there is a way to get a replacement wire? Or do corsair offer any help for something like this? Is there a place to go to fix this before I fork out for a new keyboard?! Please help!!
Apophis3
If you need something fast you can go to MicroCenter and purchase the keyboard there as a Factory Refurbished, which is a lot cheaper than new. BTW, thank you for validating my K63 Wireless purchase.
_Hemi
First thing I would do is prepare him a nice meal. Rabbit stew comes to mind. A KB cable isn't something easily replaced. It can be done but sourcing the cable could be difficult. Wait till he gets home and tell the truth and offer to buy him a new one. Micro Center shows 1 refurb @ 119.99. that's pretty cheap for a K95. New are better than 250.
Apophis3
What you could do is RMA the kb to Corsair and pay for the repair. Maybe you can get a quote and see how much cheaper that is (RMA + shipping costs both ways) vs the refurb replacement.
c-attack
How bad is the cable? Clean through? Ignoring the question of whether the warranty will cover the damage, doing the RMA through warranty is going to require his cooperation. You need to create a separate Corsair account, upload the purchase invoice, and in a best case scenario turn around is going to be 7-10 days. There is no way this can happen without him becoming aware, so that raises the issue of whether you are hoping to avoid the confession or come clean. Then we are back again to whether it will be covered. A strict reading of the warranty indicates no, but sometimes people are kind. If you want to cut your losses or are hopeful of a quick and quiet resolution, the above suggestion to look for a refurbished board is a good one. Those are not junk. It can be as simple as someone who damaged the outer box, broke a key (now replaced), etc. Seriously damaged keyboards are not reborn. They become scrap. I am not sure where you are, but I see these as low $130 from multiple vendors. Amazon can probably have it to you in 48 hours. Brand new keyboards have come down in price as well. Check around. Likely to available locally too. The thing you need to find out is which version of the K95 Platinum is in front off you. It comes in two colors: black and gunmetal grey. The overwhelming majority are black with a 6 grey keys on the left and small grey volume scroll wheel on the right. Assuming it is black, then you need to figure out the switch type. There are two: Cherry MX Speed and Cherry MX Brown. Easiest way to determine this is the flip the keyboard over and look at the part number (P/N) in the white box on the label. The part number will start with CH-91270.. You need to tell us if it ends in 12 or 14. That will tell you the key type and which one you need to buy.
