EasterEEL
Hi, I built a system in December as per my signature. Using my trusty Corsair TwinX512-3200LLPT (2x256Mb) memory purchased in late 2003, the system has been 100% stable. Tested at 2-3-2-6 1T with usual tools, Memtest 86+, Super Pi, 3DMark etc. To increase total memory, I puchased some Corsair TwinX1024-3200XL (2x512MB). Unfortunately the system is not stable with this memory at 2-2-2-5 1T. I get occasional Windows errors and BSOD. The memory passed 100% after 8 hours memtest 86+. But Super Pi gives errors such as NOT CONVERGENT IN SQR05 and NOT EXACT IN ROUND. I have changed timing to 2-3-2-5 1T asnd increased voltage to 2.8v but no improvment. I also have an Asus A7N8X motherboard and both types of memory run 100% stable with that board at timing mentioned above. Can you offer any advice on where I can go from here? Is it reasonable to assume that the Asus motherboard is proving the XL memory is 100% ok? regards.... Roger
EasterEEL
To update my previous message I have been using MemTest 3.1, Windows RAM reliability tester from: http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ The Corsair TwinX512-3200LLPT (2x256Mb) will also run this test for hours with either motherboard. The Corsair TwinX1024-3200XL (2x512MB) fails with an error message (before 400-800% is complete) with both motherboards. Confusingly it passes 100% Memtest 86+ but fails MemTest 3.1 with both motherboard. I am going to test one stick at a time in the Asus A7N8X and will report back. Not sure what else I can do other than RMA the memory. regards  Roger
Wired
Don't run a windows based memory tester, as they are unreliable due to their need of windows.
EasterEEL
Wired, not sure what would be wrong with the MemTest 3.1 for windows, other than it can not test all memory at the same time, but will take your advice with this. Nevertheless The 3200LLPT memory passed for +12 hours on both motherboards, the 3200XL failed on both motherboards. Given the other problems I have with the DFI motherobard and the 3200XL which I have got no further to solving, I have reluctantly RMA'd it. As all I want to do is increase memory to 1024MB, I am considering going for Corsair TwinX1024-3200LLPT (2x512Mb). Are there likely to be any physical differences compared to Corsair TwinX512-3200LLPT (2x256Mb) I purchased in late 2003? i.e. I am wondering if the DFI incompatabilty is due to XL vs LLPT or 512MB vs 1024MB or something else Any help (response!) appreciated regards.... Roger
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 23, 2005 You cannot mix memory with most systems now days. I would suggest you find another use for what you have and get a Twinx2048-3200C2 for best performance.
