tiefe
First, here's my configuration: D875PBZ Intel motherboard 3.0 GHz P4 cpu MSI G4MX440 video card 4 x CMX512-3200C2PT memory After putting up with system flakiness for longer than I should have, I finally caught a clue when I discovered this site and memtest.org. Running memtest86+ on the full memory configuration showed some definite single-bit errors. Did try alternate timing after some searching posts here; no difference between 3-4-4-8 and the default 2.5-3-3-8 timing. I finally ran memtest on each DIMM individually, using the same slot each time. Two of the modules passed multiple times, while the other two each failed within minutes. Looks like a hard failure to me. And the system running on the two passing DIMMs is running rock-solid now. All four modules were purchased together from ZipZoomFly, but their 30-day return period has expired and then some. RMA time, or is there something else I should try? tiefe
Wired
Are those 2 a TwinX pack?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 17, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 17, 2005 Please see if you have the option to set the Dim Voltage and if you do set it to 2.775 Volts and test the suspect modules again with http://www.memtest.org to be sure. If you do RMA them I would suggest you send all 4 so they match. And If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! Not too surprisingly, I could find no option for adjusting the DIMM voltage (Intel boards aren't known for their tweakability). And to answer Wired's question, all four modules were ordered as a pair of TWINX packs, but it's impossible to know at this point which ones were paired with which. I'll get the RMA process going ASAP. Thanks for your help! tiefe
Wired
What's the revision of each stick? Each TwinX pack will have the same revision and lot #. How To Read the Memory Label
tiefe
Sorry about the delayed response, but I was reluctant to tear down my (finally) stable system until my RMA info arrived, which it now has. I inspected all four modules, and all have identical lot and version labels: XMS3202v1.2 0325008 All other markings were, of course, identical as well. tiefe
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 I would try and manually set the timings to Cass 2.5-4-4-8 and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. If you get errors, try Cass 3-3-3-8.
tiefe
I would try and manually set the timings to Cass 2.5-4-4-8 and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. If you get errors, try Cass 3-3-3-8. Unfortunately, that is no longer possible. All four modules are en route back to Corsair, as of Saturday, 2/26. Should arrive Wednesday, I'm told. Needless to say, the first thing that will be booted with the return/replacement memory will be memtest. tiefe
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 No problem, please let me know when you get the new modules.
tiefe
Just wanted to let you know that the replacement memory arrived a couple days ago, and is working great. These TwinX pairs have slightly different version and lot codes, so I made very certain to install them correctly for proper dual-channel function. It turns out these modules come up automatically at 3-3-3-8 timing, and they've passed multiple iterations of memtest with flying colors. Finally, 2 GB of error-free goodness. Thanks for your help! tiefe
