wilsok
I have an ABIT TH7-Raid mobo. My cpu is a Pentium 4 1.5 gz and came with 2 x 128MB PC800 mz memory modules. The system has been very stable since building it. I decided to install additional memory and purchased 2 x 128 corsair PC800mz modules in April 2004. After installing the Corsair Memory the computer randomly resets itself. I had Written to this forum before, performed a memory test etc. I received an RMA and returned the memory, which was replaced. I tried the new memory with the same result. As I was frustrated, I did nothing further. I have picked up the quest again and am wondering if there are any suggestions. All the computers componants seem to be fine. You can see my previous posts if you wish... Thanks for your help.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 Please try the system with just our modules installed and then test them with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, please check with ABIT to make sure that you have the latest bios installed as well.
wilsok
Thanks for your quick reply. I have the last BIOS they made for this Motherboard installed. I also did the Memtest and there were no errors reported. After the memtest, I could not boot into Windows XP SP2 (computer would freeze). As I have both Windows 98SE and Windows XP installed I was able to get into windows 98 OK. I think the last time I was still able to boot with this memory installed, although it still rebooted by itself after a while. I did not have SP2 installed at that time. Maybe its got something to do with windows XP.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 I would try and un-install the Video driver and then install the latest chipset driver and see if it will let you to WinXP or see if it will boot in safe mode. wilsok
Sorry, I was not able to boot into windows XP because of something I had done. I have installed the latest video driver and I thought I had it fixed, but after 10 - 15 minutes it restarted again...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 We can try replacing your modules if you like, but what you have posted so far would suggest some other problem. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
wilsok
I have requested an RMA number as suggested. In the mean time is there any other suggestion you might have. Why would the memory that came with my CPU (Samsung ) operate flawlessly and Corsair memory won't, even by itself. Would a new video card fix the problem, or is it possiblt the motherboard and nothing can be done about it. Thanks for your help.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 No problem, please let me know when you get the new modules.
wilsok
Well I recieved the new modules and unfortunately the computer still randomly reboots with the corsair modules installed. The original samsung ram has never done this. I just have no idea what to try next. Why would one kind on ram work flawlessly and another will not. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 29, 2005 Please try and load setup/optimized defaults with the all of the modules installed and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org
wilsok
I set the computer to optimum as suggested and then ram memtest for 1.5 hours. there were no errors reported.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 31, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 31, 2005 Did that solve the problem? If not what O.S. are you using?
wilsok
before I did what you asked my computer would restart every 45 minutes to an hour. Since setting my setup to optimized defaults and running memtest the computer now restarts every 3 hours. In fact it restarted while I was typing my reply to you. My OS is Ms Windows XP Pro. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 1, 2005 Are you getting any errors in memtest? If not I would check the event log and see if there are any error codes you can check at http://www.microsoft.com/technet
wilsok
I have the corsair memory out now because when I am on the net or doing anything that uses the memory the computer re-boots. I ran memtest for 1.5 hours, it went through 4 times and did not detect any errors. I did a search and found the event viewer. When viewing the various items, there are only information items that relate to programs starting up etc. There are no warnings or errors reported during the time I had the corsair memory in my system and/or during the time it was rebooting. I could clear the log and install the corsair memory and try the whole thing again, but frankly this has become very frustrating. As the samsung memory works just fine. I am thinking I should just chauk this up to a bad purchase. Will Corsair exchange the rdram memory for DDR memory, of equal value, so that I could at least install in a new motherboard. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 5, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 5, 2005 You will need to ask customer service about that, and do you have the latest bios installed? If not you might try that. Customer Service or 888-222-4346 Dial "0".
