digitalfreak
I'm doing some research on the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. Link is here: MSI K8N Neo4 About half way down the page, it appears to say that if I put 2 double sided DIMMs (D) in a dual channel configuration, the RAM will run at 333Mhz. I remember Ram Guy saying that all Corsair 512MB sticks are double sided. Does that mean that if I put 2 in this board in dual channel mode that it will only run @ 333Mhz? Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 That is not what they are saying. If you use 2 double sided module in slots 1-2 you can run at DDR400 but if you install them in slots 1-3 or install 4 modules you would be forced to run at DDR333. digitalfreak
That is not what they are saying. Maybe I'm missing something, but their chart shows slots 1 & 3 (Green) as Channel A, and 2 & 4 (Purple) as Channel B. Now I'm assuming that for dual channel mode to work, I would need to install DIMMs in slots 1 & 3, not 1 & 2. Their second chart shows that having Double Sided (D) DIMMs in slots 1 & 3 means that the RAM runs at 333Mhz. Maybe it's just a typo on their part. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 The way I took the chart dual channel would be in slots 1-2 or 3-4. You might call them if you still have questions!
Cirick
The way I took the chart dual channel would be in slots 1-2 or 3-4. You might call them if you still have questions! Above the chart in the manual it states: "It is strongly recommended not to insert the memory modules into the purple slots while the green slots are left empty." Then in the chart it tells you to put ddr 400 into slot 1 (green) and 2(purple) that would leave an empty green slot. Why do I feel like I have been put in a round room and told to go sit in the corner?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 Have you talked to the MB maker? I am sorry but they should be the ones you get clairification on this from. After all they made the MB. But If slots 1-2 dont work try slots 3-4, as suggested previously. Cirick
Have you talked to the MB maker? I am sorry but they should be the ones you get clairification on this from. After all they made the MB. But If slots 1-2 dont work try slots 3-4, as suggested previously. One and two are the same as 3 & 4 (green and purple) The question was according to the manual you should not put anything in a purple slot until all the greens are filled. See statement in previous post. Perhaps what they meant is per channel... I have been waiting for a response since 8:30 this morning from them. I was suppose to deliver this computer today. I can't wait any longer I am using 1 & 2 and ignoring their green slots full statement.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 1, 2005 You might call them again if you are in a rush. But I would ask them directly to clairify that! However, if the system is stable and working properly, I would not worry about it too much.
Tellus
This has confused a lot of people, to run the mems in dual config the memorys should be in slot 1+2 or 3+4, when using 4 pieces of doubel sided ram it´s possible that they will run in 333Mhz, but 2 pieces will work just fine. I have built systems with MSI K8N Diamond SLI, NF4Ultra and NEO4 SLI with double sided rams and there hasn´t beenany problems... (These memory "rules" also apply on MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum...) Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 2, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 2, 2005 Let's try and simplify this a bit. 2 modules should run at DDR400 with out problems. 4 Modules the MB will by default try to run the memory at DDR333!
