Bad pair of XMS

Have a bad pair of XMS CMX512-2700LL XMS2705 v1.2

Been having weird problems with this system for a LONG time and finally couldn't take it anymore. Swapped out RAM for different sticks and the system ran stable. After finding these forums, I downloaded and ran the boot CD ISO from Memtest86 and both modules had numerous errors. I ran each module individually.

Thanks

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

CPU: AthlonXP2700+

MB: GB GA700N Pro

FSB: 166 Mhz

All the BIOS settings are default settings.

I Have tried both of these settings in the BIOS:

Memory Frequency: AUTO

Resulting FRQ: AUTO

AND>

Memory Frequency: By SPD

Resulting FRQ: 266 MHz

I don't see any features on this board that allow me to change the RAM timings and such.

By the way, I put the ram in another system and ran the same Memory tests from the CD, and it failed there as well.

At the main bios screen hit CNTRL + F1 and more options will be un-hidden.

Then set the Dim Over voltage control to +.2 Volts and set the memory timings to the following.

CPU Freq: 166 MHz

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 166MHz

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

Then please test the modules one at a time. But with this MB you should make sure that you have the latest bios as well.

Wow, I downloaded the latest BIOS, changed those settings and then ran the memory tests and they both passed(one and a time). I even played Half Life 2 for several hours today with no problems, normally it would crash afte 5-10 minutes of playing.

If I have any more problems, I'll post back, but so far so good.

Thanks!
