onizuka87
I just received my memory modules and it did not boot to the plug and play configurations of 2-2-2-5. Also, upon starting windows and playing Half-Life 2, the system crashed multiple times. I optimized my mobo settings and it defaulted to CAS 2.5, 5, 2, 2. Could anyone please help me by letting me know what I can change my settings to? Or is it just a bad set of ram. Thanks. My specs: ABIT IS-10 Mobo Intel p4 3.2 HT corsair 1024mb twins1024-3200xl Low latency ram Nvidia Geforce GT 6600 128mb 80gb WD 7200rpm 8mb cache hp dvd/cd-rw drive Sony dvd-rw drive Antec 330 true power PSU SB Audigy 2 sound card Adaptec Firewire PCI
Wired
CAS Latency: 2 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2 Row Precharge (tRP): 2 Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5 If not, try these timings: CAS Latency: 2 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3 Row Precharge (tRP): 2 Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5 If those work, try then @ 2-2-2-5 on another system. onizuka87
Ok cool. I'll try if it works. I actually browsed other threads and tried timings of 2-3-2-6, and it seems to work fine. Just a question though - do these timings such as 2-3-2-6 vary significantly in terms of performance with respect to 2-2-2-5 settings? :o:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 15, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 15, 2005 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200XL Softmenu SetUp CPU Freq: 200 DRAM Clock: 400 MHz CPU:DRAM ratio: 1:1 Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts System performance: Standard AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* Advanced/Chipset Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T (2.5T AMD Platform) SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T SDRAM Burst Length: 8 All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! onizuka87
 I tried what you said, but simply the settings of 2-2-2-5 totally freezes my computer. It keeps saying memory .. cannot be referenced and gives an error code. Either the optimized default of 2.5-2-2-5, 2-3-2-5, and 2-3-2-6 had no problems. I wouldn't mind keeping the latencies at these settings, but will I really not get optimum performance? Should I switch to a lower Corsair memory product by returning this set? Also, how do i use your memtest from windows? thanks. -John
onizuka87
Thanks for helping me out guys, but I have decided to exchange the memory. I ran the mem test at all the aforementioned latency settings, and it failed horribly. I tried them one module at a time and had the same results. I hope that the next set will be okay, and if it still fails, that means my hardware configuration is the most probable cause for failure. I honestly don' t think my hardware has any problems, however, as I have correctly put all the values to match this pair of ram. Oh well. Thanks guys again anyways. -John :):
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 16, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 16, 2005 Have you changed the memory voltage as well? If not, then this where the problem is coming from; regardless if you get the modules replaced, those modules may not run properly if you don't have the correct memory voltage settings on it. onizuka87
Thanx for the quick reply. I'm suprised how you can answer everyone's concerns. Anyway, I'm just wondering how I can change the memory voltage settings, as my Abit motherboard doesn't seem to allow me to change the settings in my BIOS. Is it supposed to be done differently? Abit also has a temp/volt monitor program in windows but it won't let me to change it there either. Could you please let me know? Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 17, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 17, 2005 Under the Softmenu setup, you should have a DDR SDRAM voltage option, please set it at 2.8 volts, or you have to change the Power Voltage settings to manual if you can not change it. onizuka87
1. Will another corsair model prevent from me having to switch the voltage to 2.8V or is that required for all XMS modules? 2. My BIOS and softmenu has no overclocking or voltage altering capabilities, which puts me in a real dilemma. Perhaps I should just stick to the Corsair Value Select memories? Thanks. :p:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 23, 2005 You probably have to flash your BIOS to the latest one, or contact MB manufacturer and ask on where you can locate that specific information. Yes, all XMS modules are recommended to be set at 2.75 volts if you don't have 2.75 volts then 2.8 volts should do it.
