A7N8X-Deluxe Rev 2.0

Hi,

I am running a Asus A7N8x-Deluxe MB, with Dual Raptor Hard drives in raid 0, a PNY Geforce 6800 GT Video board and Twinx 2048 Corsair Ram, 550 W power supply and great cooling (GPU runs at 120 degrees F, Chips at 2.7 VDC Running at 115 degrees F)

I am running XP Pro, with all the security updates, and have flashed the latest bios to the motherboard and am running the latest NVidia drivers for the video as well as the unified drivers for the NForce 2 chipset.

I currently am running the ram at 2.7 VDC and setting the ram at 200 MHz FSB(Duel Channel), and SPD (3,4,4,11) settings. The system runs fine for all of my work related programs, albeit slower than I would think it should run, compared to my 2 x 512 ram that I used to have.

When running serious graphics intensive programs (like EQII) I am getting all kinds of crashes, BSODs, eqgame faults and NVidia Driver faults.

I do not get these with the 2 x 512 ram running 2.5, 3,3,9.

Are there better settings I could run at for this board and the Twinx 2048 PC3200LL Ram? Seems that not many people are using the 2048 flavor.

I have resolved the issues by removing the chips and running the higher VRam on my drives, but it seems a waste of 500 dollars not to be able to use the ram as it was intended, to offload the hard drives and gain speed and throughput between the 3GHz AMD processor and the Raptor Drives in SATA Raid 0.

Thanks

PN TWINX2048-3200

Would I be better off jumping the voltage to 2.8 VDC?

Would I be better off setting 4,4,4,12?

Interesting that you recommend that no one needs more than 1 gb when Vid boards are chaching 256 MB and graphic are reaching over 1.2 GB in working size. Maybe I shouldn't try to make this machine do it all.

TwinX2048-3200LL does not currently exist.

TwinX2048-3200 is rated at:

CAS Latency: 3

RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3

Row Precharge (tRP): 3

Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8

They are rated up to, but not over, 2.9 volts, so trying 2.8 is fine.

"graphic are reaching over 1.2 GB in working size"

What do you mean by this?

As for games using memory, yes, some can use an insane amount, but not many. Most I have heard of so far was Star Wars: Galaxies. It will use up to 75% of your system memory. It will max out at 75 % of 1.5 GB I believe.

I am working on multiple layer overviews of assembly systems in ACAD 3D, that bad enough? I also am importing/exporting BMPs and other files into CorelDraw and ACAD, as well as working with music files in 128 Channel Wav (Most I've done is 32) and Streaming Video editing, cutting pasting and copying.

Its just too bad this machine is so slow
