2*512 MB 4400c25 in a MSI K8N Neo2 Patinum, not even DDR500!

Hello,

I have an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard, and I wanted to buy the best OC-ing memory for this board on the market. According to Corsair's Meomory Search Site, this is the best overclocking memory availible for my motherboard. Since I had good experiences with Corsair memory, I decided to buy a set of 1 GB Twinx 4400c25 memory.

I am a bit disappointed though, since the memory does not run well at the rated speed of 275 MHz. I even get errors on 250 MHz! My system and BIOS settings are as follows:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Antec Truepower 330w

2*512 MB Corsair 4400c25

I am using 2,5-4-4-8 timings. When I run memtest 86, it gives lots of errors in test 5. Increasing or decreasing the voltage (2,5 - 2,85) does not make any difference.

I am sure the problem does not lie with my motherboard, since the maximum HTT speed I have ever achieved is somewhere over the 310 MHz, so 250 and even 275 will not be any problem.

Adjusting the CAS Latency to 3.0, or the command rate from 1T to 2T does not work either. Still many errors in Memtest 86 test 5. I can manage to boot windows with 250 MHz, but my system is far from stable.

I hava repeated the above test with both modules acting as a Dual Channel setup, and with the individual modules. The result was the same in all cases.

Do you think my memory modules might be bad, or have I overlooked something? Do not hesitate to ask for more info.

Thanks,

This would suggest it's either just a setting or some other problem other than memory. I would suggest you vist MSI user forum for help with the settings. But you would need to set the Hyper Transport to 2 or 3 if you want to run at these Freq. Or you can try http://www.houseofmobos.com as well.

Not that I do not believe you, but what do you base this on?

I did set the HT multiplier to 3, I should have mentioned that before, sorry.

Thanks for the help,

A: The fact that you are getting the same results when testing the modules one up for starters. If you have a bad module then one would fail and the other would run perfect. And it would be close to impossible to get 2 bad modules or 2 modules that are failing at the exact same setting.

Barticus,

I have no problem replacing your modules, but from what you have posted I would suspect some other issue. If you want to try replacing your modules.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

Ok, convinced :). I'll review my motherbaord's settings and check the url's you suggested. Thanks for the help,

Hello,

After some testing in a friend's motherboard i found out that the momory won't even do 240 MHz @ 2,5-4-4-8.

Another thing I am curious about is the label on the modules. My modules seem to be relabeled, because there are two labels on each module. You will only notice it if you look very closely, but this picture I took will show what I mean. Both modules seem to be relabeled in this manner.

Could it be that I have received a relabeled set of memory, which is not actualy made with TCCD chips? I do not dare to take off the heatspreader and check it out for myself, because my retailer might not take back the modules if I removed the heatspreader.
