darkknight_9
Hi, I have a AMD64 3500+ system with the abovementioned board and RAM kit. Trouble is the RAM refuses to work with the advertised 2-2-2-5 timings. Spits out quite some errors on test# 5 of memtest86+ v.1.40. With 2-2-3-5 timings however, everything is stable and there are no errors with memtest86+. I have already done some searching on this forum and tried the usual solutions of using banks 2+4 and DDR voltage = 2.8V. It didn't help. I also tested each module separately with the same results. 2-2-2-5 simply doesn't work! I need to have tRP = 3 instead of 2. I recently changed my PSU to a AiroCool 450W: http://www.aerocool.us/power/BS%20line/bs%20line.htm Any ideas anyone? Does the tRP affect system performance in a significant way? Yellowbeard
First, changing the tRP to 3 would likely cause a less than 2% change if any noticeable change at all. And, you'd literally have to use a benchmark to see the difference. You'll never see it with the naked eye. I have an A8V with 2 x 512mb of PC3200 XL running just fine at 2,2,2,11 timings. The AMD rigs seem to like that last timing (tRAS) at 11. Also, set 2T command rate to disabled. Perhaps that change will help. Also, make sure you have the latest bios loaded. I think it is 1009 Final. Mike.

Does this have to do with the RAM modules or the MB/CPU (since the memory controller is in the AMD64) ?
Yellowbeard
All I can say is that it is "an AMD thing". It popped up on the old NF-2 MOBOs and people got good results with these timings and LL/XL type RAM. Good luck and post again if this does not help. And, I have not fully explored the bios yet but, make sure that there is no turbo or performance type settings enabled. They usually interfere with manual timings and tweaking. Mike. I tried the 2-2-2-11 timing but that didn't help either .. seem like tRP > 2 is a _MUST_. I then loaded up the latest beta bios (1010.3) and still the same thing. The system overclocking mode was set from auto to manual to allow the 2.8V DDR voltage setting. All other things look as they should be.
Yellowbeard
I'll have a look over my setup a bit later and see if anything jumps out at me. However, if the system is stable and otherwise performs well, personally I would not sweat it. But, it's up to you how much time and effort you want to put into it. Can you post all of the information from both sticks of RAM? List the info given on the holographic sticker. Mike.
Yellowbeard
Here are some bios shots. The only thing I can think of that I have done is to set the FSB to 201mhz. However, I can't remember why I did it. Not sure if/why that would affect your setup. Mike.
darkknight_9
ok here are some shots of mine. It's still no-go. The information on both sticks are identical: CMX 512-3200XL XMS 3208v1.2 0453051-2 XMS 3200 512MB 400MHz 2.2.2.
