1337buildinN00B
I have an Asus P4P800-E deluxe mobo and a pair of 512MB XMS PC3200s running in dual channel mode, but the default BIOS setting is 266Mhz instead of 400Mhz. FSB runs at 800 by default, so that is good. I had, in the past, set the RAM speed to 400Mhz and tweaked the timings to match the Corsair specs, but after a BIOS update it reset everything to defaults. I *could* go find where I wrote down all the settings, but this has me once again in a tizzy as to WHY my mobo won't run it as default settings. I checked the Asus QVM before purchasing my RAM, and it was on the list, so it *shouldn't* be a compatibility issue. Any insight as to what the issue may be? Am I mistaken to think it should default to 400Mhz/vendor-documented timings? I REALLY don't like poking around this part of the BIOS without knowing EXACTLY what I'm supposed to be doing... Here are my system specs: 2.8Ghz P4 Prescott Asus P4P800-E Deluxe mobo (2) Corsair PC3200 XMS 512's in dual-channel mode (2) Seagate 80-gig 7200RPM SATA HDD in performance RAID GeForce Ti4200 128MB (soon to be 6800GT 256MB) Aspire X-Alien case w/ OEM 420 watt PSU (soon to be Antec 550 TruePower) XP Pro Case glows green  I'd be greatly appreciative for the help... Wired
What is the exact part # and revision # of each stick? How To Read the Memory Label
1337buildinN00B
Hmm, I can see it now... Both are CMX512-3200C2PT, but the first stick is XMS3202V3.1 , the stick in the third slot is XMS3202V1.2... It makes sense, I suppose. The vendor I bought them from only had one in stock (AFTER I placed my order for two), and had to order a second stick to fill my order. It was a lot of hassle and phone calls to the other side of the country. I purchased the RAM nine months ago, so I guess an RMA for matching revs is out of the question. Will manually setting the timing/speed work for different revisions? If so, what is the potential "down side"?
1337buildinN00B
Not trying to make a gratuitous bump here, but it's been a couple days since the last reply... If at all possible, I'd like to RMA for matching versions; I bought this RAM to run dual channel 400Mhz and it simply won't do it without BIOS "tweaks". Wired
It's no problem at all, bumping after 24 hours. Did your reseller sell them as a TwinX set, or just as 2 sticks?

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 9, 2005 The 2 modules you have are different revisions, and in order to run them in dual channel they should be a matched set. If you just purchased these I would send them back to your reseller and ask for a Twinx set instead. If that is not an option I would request an RMA from us by email and please make it clear the modules need to be matched. Se bellow for the R<A instructions. However, you can try and set the settings manually and see if they will work together. AI Over Clock Tunner: Manual CPU Freq: 200 MHz System performance: Auto Memory Frequency: 100%/DDR400 Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 7T Then please use http://www.memtest.org to test the system. For the RMA if needed: Please send us a email with a copy of the form or all of your info name address and phone# and the Module part# and copy the link to this post and email it to Rma@corsairmemory.com. If after 1 day or 24 hours excluding weekends you do not get the rma please email the same to warranty@corsairmemory.com and we will help to resolve it. 1337buildinN00B
Thanks RAM Guy. I have put in for an RMA rather than try to "force" it to work (I have a weak constitution for such things :o: )
