Hi i just bought some new Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 CAS2.5 Kit (2x512MB) (VS1GBKIT400) (MY-041-CS) RAM and when i use it my computer will just literally freeze up and i can't move my mouse or anything, i have to restart. It does this when pretty much all the time unless i just don't do anything on my computer apart from using IE. Is this to do with compatibility? i put my old RAM back in and it seems to work fine, so it must be my new corsair RAM. Heres my specs.

Intel P4 2.66ghz Medion PC with a MS-6701 chip

Geforce 6800GT 256mb

PSU = Jeantech 500w

I don't really have much cooling in my computer its ambiant temp is 41C dunno if the RAM is over heating?

BIOS = Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Thanks for any help or advice much appreciated.

RAM GUY can surely clarify but, I have seen situations like this before. The Corsair RAM you bought is PC3200 and should be backwards compatible to PC2700. However, I doubt that the combination of your bios and the SPD on the RAM will not allow it to boot at PC2100.

First, check with your MOBO maker or system builder and see if they have an updated bios that might allow a wider variety of RAM to be used. Also, you can check with RAM GUY or call Corsair on Monday and ask if their PC2700 will work with a PC2100 MOBO.

Good luck, Mike.

That is my guess. It is most likely either a function of the bios to limit your upgrade options and/or a chipset limitation. If your core components are good enough, you may be able to solve this by getting a new MOBO and migrating everything over. Other than that, you are most likely limited to buying whatever RAM the manufacturer offers. You can get some decent P4 MOBOs for around $100 if you decide to try that. Look us up at http://www.houseofmobos.com if decide to go MOBO shopping.

Well, typically MOBO recommendations are beyond the scope of this forum. But, RAM GUY may have some ideas. I haunt another place that is coming along nicely, the http://www.houseofmobos.com . If you could post over there and list your COMPLETE system specifications and all of your components we'll be glad to help.

My largest concern actually would be if you are using a copy of Windows from that builder/vendor. A proprietary copy of Windows may not want to run properly on a self build. But, I think there are ways around that also.
