Bad Ram?

Recommended Posts

Recently I've been having trouble with crashing in all sorts of applications. I get a variety of errors ranging from access violations to "memory could not be read" and misc files crashing on me. I ordered a new backup hard drive recently and tried using that but the errors still came up. Next I removed one of my RAM sticks (I have 2x 512mb) and the crashing went away for two days. At this point I decided to try to swap in the other stick of RAM, and the crashes immediately started happening again. Do I have a bad stick?

My motherboard is a Asus P4C800 Deluxe, and my RAM is CMX512-3200C2 (two sticks). Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

I have a 2.8 GHz p4 with 800 FSB

I'm pretty much using the defaults as far as BIOS settings go.

Please make sure that you have the latest bios version installed and then load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts and set the timings manually to whats listed bellow and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org to be sure.

Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts

System Performance: Auto

PAM/MAM: Auto

Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz/DDR400

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

Yes it does,

Under Jumper free

AI Over clock tuner to Manual

Then you will be able to set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts

Under Advanced Chipset you should be able to set the memory timings to manual and then set the timings I gave you. If you have problems you can call our tech support when you are in front of your system and we will talk you through it. 888-222-4346 and choose option "2"!
