Jerick Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 Windows XP is always freezing up no matter how many times I reinstall the OS and change the version of OS to SP2. IE and firefox will eventually lose responses and automatically close. Acrobat has the same problem. Norton and Kaspasaky can not perform the full system scan. In a word , the system cannot afford the stable and basic operation. I have tested the HD by HDD regenerator and WD windlg, and the new WD HDD is pretty good and has no physical and logical failure. The Power is also good and has sufficient voltage (measured by MSI core center and voltmeter). Don't mention the CPU's temperature, which is never over 40'C. Finally, I test your ram module(TWINX512-3200XL x 2, total 1GB), the most trusted component in my system. The result is frustrated and made me angry. The ram can be operated in the BIOS default setting and 2-2-2-5 setting as advertised, but they are not stable and has error in returned value. My job is mainly about scientifical simulation and cannot tolerate a little bit error(besides the error generated from the data type). Unfortunately, this twin module cannot guarantee this as well as the basic opertaion. Here are some test results done by myself: Ram Stress Test: Dual Channel: The JUMP test shows there are errors, and cannot pass this test. Single channel: Each ram also cannot pass the JUMP test. Memtest-86, v3.0 Dual channel: There are errors in the test #5.(Detailed result can be viewed in figures) Single channel: No ram seems ok in any slot. I change each ram tested in the DIMM 1 and DIMM 3 (that's the suggested arrangement by MSI MB manual). Each ram cannot pass the test #4 and #5, and the error occurs in the same address. (Detailed result is also showed in the figures). Hence, what should I do now? Or, what can you do for a costumer now? Thank you for your patience. ----------------------------------------------------------- System list MSI NEO2, BIOS v1.4(up-to-date) AMD 64, K8, 3500+, 939 CPU clock: 2211MHz, voltage: 1.5V corsair TWINX512-3200XL x 2 DDR clock: 200MHz, voltage: 2.70v and v 2.75v (each RAM has tested in each voltage and had same error in the same address) Tcl:2 Trcd:2 Tras:5 Trp:2 AGP: ATI AIW 9800 pro, 66MHz, 1.5V. Wired Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 There's a thread around here concering that power supply causing instability. While it may or may not be the problem, it's enough to recommend trying the memory in another system. If they pass, try 2-3-2-5 timings, as some memory controllers don't like the tRCD delay to be 2.
Jerick Posted February 1, 2005 Author Posted February 1, 2005 Thank you for your opinion. But, the result is the same as I have done before. I move these two rams to my emachine desktop, and run the memtest. The errors are still there. Then, I test the 2-3-5-2 setting in BIOS, and memtest still shows the same error. You can see the details in the attachment. Should I send these two ram back? How can I get the RMA?
Jerick Posted February 6, 2005 Author Posted February 6, 2005 *This article has post for a week. All I need is request the RMA and have a good ram module. Here is my former post's Forum Post Number: #171111, and below is my former acticle. All figures are located in the former post.
