Ive just recived the 1GB TwinX Matched Pair XMS 3200XLPRO memory which as shown here

http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/memorysearch.aspx?modelid=228

As compatible with my Abit IC7-G

Ive tried to install the modules but when I do my system lights up and the fans fire but nothin else happens, have put back my Kingston Valueram and alls ok.

When switched on the LED's all light up for a few seconds and then sit at 2 bars, I have tried the modules in slots 1/2 - 1/3 - 2/4, all with the same results. I have also tried 1 module on its own getting the same results.

Ive just done some investigation and the modules are marked ( CMX512-3200XLPRO ) Ive checked corsairs site and it shows that these modules are not actualy compatible

Have I bought the wrong kit ?

Is there a potential problem ?

I cant make any modifications with this ram in my system as it doesnt even post boot.

Any help would be apreciated

Dear Ram Guy

I took my PC to my local repair / upgrade shop and asked them to do as you instructed and they had the same problem as me.

They installed the memory, cleared the bios via the motherboard jumper and switched on.

The power light comes on, the fans start. And thats it. The monitor goes into standby and there is no hard drive activity or any other activity for that matter.

Please advise.

Dear Ram Guy

Yes, the system is running fine now with my kingston value. ( Note have not tried at any point to run both ram together ). The KV ram was the ram I had prior to purchasing the Corsair kit, and am still using as unable to get Corsair kit to run.

I'm sorry to say I don'nt have another system with which to test the ram and the shop I took my system to yesterday did not have a system available to test the memory, either that or they did and were not prepared to test and so just said they didn't.

Regards

A :(:

Thanks Wired, I was wondering, although presumed from Ram Guys comments that they were. So are they faulty ?, just seems odd that after they did not boot they were each individualy tested with the same result. One bad module I could understand... but both ???.

I had an idea and flashed my bios to make sure was running the most up to date version and tried again, same results as before... I'm all out of ideas.

Ram Guy please let me know if you have any ideas on further testing my end or possibility of returning to be tested / replaced if required.

Kind regards

If you are not in the USA please talk to your reseller and see if they will help you get them replaced. If not please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

Thanks Ram Guy, I will persue the replacement option here in England first. However just a quick question if needs be. If I have to return to you direct do I need to include payment for return postage for the new Ram or the old stuff should you test as ok....

Regards

Anthony

The modules where brought off of myself as working modules.

I had them in an A64 setup running a 3400+ CG, DFI LanParty, PCP+C 510w Dlx PSU and Mach II GT Cooled machine.

I had them running memtest stable at default settings of 2-2-2-5, then I had them running at 2-3-3-10 1T 245FSB. That would pass memtest, loops of 3D Mark 2001SE, 2003, 2005 and prime.

They wouldn't boot at CAS2.5 in my machine, I thought this was the memory at first but it didn't boot with a stick of generic 512MB PC3200 RAM.

They worked fine in my girlfriends machine as well (ABIT VA-20, AXP 2500+, standard sink and 270w PSU).

Can't see how there faulty personally.

The memory is now working as advised by supplier to set the memory timeing in the bios with the old memory in, install new memory and the system boots up fine...... suprised this was not mentioned earlier.

The bios was set to Auto for memory settings however it would appear the bios would not auto detect the memory speeds even with the latest bios.

I am sorry but we do not support mixing modules, and honestly I did not even think that you would have been doing that.

In fact I have stated someting to that effect in this thread.

Please try the system with just our modules and reset or clear the bios and see if it will let you into the bios!

The modules were never run together.

I booted up into the bios with the KVR, changed the memory settings to 2-2-2-5 saved, exited and switched off

Removed the KVR and installed the Corsair memory with the machine off

With the new corsair memory in switched on and it ran fine.

The KVR and Corsair were at no point ever both installed at the same time, the problem appeared to be that the IC7-G didnt auto detect the memory times and they had to be manualy input prior to the memory being installed
