STOP Errors and BSoD with Value Select

Recommended Posts

I've just put together my first build a few weeks ago, and I can't seem to work out the kinks. I keep getting stop errors when my system has been running for just a few minutes. I started with an original copy of WIN2000PRO, but I was able to install all the updates from microsoft. I was even able to install MS Office. But every time I try to install Half Life 2, it crashes with a stop error. I've gotten a lot of IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000A errors, but I'm not good at reading the memory and device addresses. here's another example of errors im getting: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0xaf94947c, 0x00000000, 0x0000000b). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini012605-01.dmp.

I'm a novice so I suck at debugging. I just need to know if exchanging my RAM sticks would be a good idea. It jsut seems to me when I look at microsoft support that it has something to do with my RAM. I'll have to submit this soon because Im sure my sys will crash any moment. I hope you can be of help. It would be appreciated.

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

VS512MB400 or VS1GBKIT400

Frequency Voltage Control

CPU Freq: 200

DRAM Clock: 400 MHz

Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts

System performance: AUTO

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

Advanced/Chipset

Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

SDRAM Burst Length: 8

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Thanks so much for the quick response, Ram Guy! I think my BIOS is up-to-date because it's a brand new MOBO. I'll enter your settings and run memtest with my BIOS as-is first, so I won't have to fiddle with jumper settings. Then, if I need to, I'll upgrade BIOS. I'm really not looking forward to doing that. :[pouts:

I was having the same issues with the same mobo and same ram. You will need the BIOS update, that is what fixed mine. It seems that the old version of BIOS will not read duel channel.

:): lol we even posted for help on the same day.

Ok.... Thanks for the input Zeb. I didn't think to upgrade BIOS because I JUST BOUGHT the dang board. Don't beleive Outpost.com would send my mobo with bunk BIOS. But perhaps 'tis true. The manual gives simple enough instructions on BIOS updates... I'll just have to mess with jumpers and pretend I'm not a complete computer newb :[pouts: You really had the SAME exact system board with value select in it?? Weird. Ok peace man.

Zeb is correct, your bios will need updated. I have same board, cpu, and memory. Get the bios update from here:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloads/ProductsDetail_Download.aspx?DetailID=423&DetailName=BIOS&DetailDesc=PT800CE-A(1.0)&MenuID=41&LanID=0

I used AWD830.exe to flash the bios. It is less complicated and works just as good. You will have to search the internet for that file.

And you will need to set your dram voltage regulator to +6%

That gives me 2.67v on my board which is the highest it will go.

Having a new MB doesn't necessarily means that it has the latest BIOS; usually the BIOS update is released after mass production, so just check on ECS website for update especially if others have found the same issue and resolve the situation by flashing the BIOS to the latest one that is available on ECS website.
