sirhenrythe2nd
I just ordered the Abit "AV8-3rd Eye" (Rev 1.1) and 2 Kits of Corsairs "Twinx1024 3200XL Pro´s". CPU will be AMD´s "Athlon64 FX-55." In various threads i read that the MoBo will slow down to 333MHz when all 4 ram slots are used. Other authors wrote that this happens with some Dimms and with some not... So to get the real truth i became finally a member of this forum to ask the the Ram-Guy himself :-) Is it possible to run these 4 Dimms without problems ? I know, that i need a powerfull PSU (will be an Enermax701 with 600 Watts) and that OC is not that possible as it is with only 2 Dimms, but i don´t want to OC anyway. More important to me is just, if the four Dimms will be able to run just fine when inserted, or do i have to modify any values in the Bios or something like that... Thank you very much & regards from Germany, SirHenry aka Alex
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2005 Welcome to the forum! And yes by default the MB will set the memory frequency at DDR333 when you install 4 modules. But you should be able to run with 4 modules, but you can only run at 2T command rate and you may have to relax the timings to get the system stable with 4 modules. Maybea better hoice would Twinx2048-3200C2 if you need to run with 2.0 Gig of RAM.
sirhenrythe2nd
Thank you for your promt answer, RamGuy. It´s not the amount of ram what made me order 4 dimms - it´s just the look of four Dimms on the board; at least by using the version with PRO-Spreaders. So i will downgrade my order to just 1 Kit :[pouts: . But nethertheless : thanks a lot again ! Better to know NOW than being dissapointed with lots of bucks gone with the wind  Great work - will be my first place to ask stuff like this from now on !
