geo0714
I'm building a new PC and have decided to replace the generic PC3200 memory I purchased with Corsair PC3200 memory. Another family member has a PC and was asking if I could install the generic memory in their machine. I checked their PC and have found that their memory is PC2100. Question: Is DDR memory backwards compatable? In other words, assuming that the chip organization is the same, will PC3200 memory work in a machine that was designed for a lower speed (PC2100, or whatever) memory? Thanks in advance. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2005 Well not always, and it will depend on the system weather or not they have bios support to decode a faster modules SPD or not. Best I can tell you would be just too try it, but test the system with http://www.memtest.org to be sure!
