Possible Bad Value Select or Bad Settings?

Hi, I have:

Sparkle 350W power supply from other computer 1.5 years old

Asus A7V8X-X

AMD Barton 2500 XP FSB set to 166/33 for the 333

1024 RAM 2x512 333 corsair valueselect 7-3-3-2.5 (stock settings I know little about o'Clocking, nor do try to do it)

40GB Maxtor 7200

120GB Maxtor 7200

CDRW

DVD-RW

two larger fans in the antec lanboy case

When I use one stick of the 512, all is "usually" well. If I use both sticks, the system hangs or just doesn't boot.

THe memory is set to 7-3-3-2.5. Is that correct or should I adjust it to something else. I don't want to RMA the memory, but it is looking more like it. Please help. Thank you.

When I went to the website, all I could find for the settins were n/a for VS512MB333.

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

VS1GBKIT333 or VS512MB333

CPU Freq: 166 MHz (333 FSB)

System Performance: User Define

Memory Frequency: 100%

Resulting Frequency: 166 MHz (333 FSB)

Memory Timing: User Define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

All other settings are motherboards defaults

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
