chuckiechan
I have two sticks CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 ( 2 X 4GIG) I'm looking at getting another pair of 2 x 4 gig - (same numbers) for a system total of 16 gigs, but I'm wondering if the revision numbers have to be the same? I haven't gotten into mine to look yet, but I doubt they are the same. The tech support website has left me high and dry, so I hope they read this. Edit: Existing memory is ver 8.11 the memory I may buy is ver 3.
c-attack
There are no guarantees unless you buy the entire 16GB as a matched kit. With experience, patience, and a little luck, sometimes mixed kits can be run together. However, the different version number suggests it is almost certainly from a different batch of semi-conductor material and possibly from a different supplier. You would be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you expect your memory to be plug and play, this is not the way to go.
emissary42
Ver8.xx = Nanya Ver3.xx = Micron Matching version numbers and lot codes can help when mixing kits, but there is no guarantee it will work out even with manual adjustment of memory related settings (timings, voltages). chuckiechan
Thanks for that. I'm going to take your advice and take a pass unless I luck out and find the same Rev # memory. (that should be safe though, correct?) Talk about a needle in a haystack! Thanks again.
