Cleaning Keycaps

I am asking what may be a stupid question with an obvious answer. However, I had an issue a few months ago where I tried to clean off grime and other dirt from on top of my keycaps and the cleanser I used just made it worse. I ended up rubbing off the lettering on a few keys.

My question is what is safe to use on the tops of the keycaps? I'm looking to clean off grime and dirt type 'stuff.' I'm assuming that isopropyl alcohol would be best. I'd rather be sure first.

Thanks.

I don't suggest Isopropyl since Isopropyl can remove paint and even permanent marker, using it a few times will be ok but it will eventually wear off the paint, I suggest just using some soap and water, or Windex (without ammonia) if you want to use a cleaning solution.
