mikalcarbine257
I have a pair of twinx1024-3200ll v1.2 sticks (ch-5 of course :( ) and I got them to 217fsb @ 2-3-2-11 with a CPC on bios on my nf7-s rev 2.0. I want more fsb out of them so I decided to try a CPC off bios. No matter what CPC off bios I have tried I always get errors at 200fsb with any combination of timings and voltage. The errors occur at test #7 of memtest86 usualy at 13%. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I wanted to ask the forum before requesting an RMA or anything. Wired
CPC off BIOS? Tried going back to a std bios with defaults?
mikalcarbine257
With a cpc on bios I can get up to 217fsb (at 218 I start getting errors even with loose timings). The whole reason I wanted a cpc off bios was to get a better overclock, why would errors appear at 200fsb though? cpc off only means a command rate of 2t
mikalcarbine257
Any help? It makes no sense to get errors at 200fsb with cpc off when its usually the better overclocking mode for 2x512 sticks
mikalcarbine257
I decided to do some further testing to find out what was going on, I used the same bios as the one I achieved 217fsb in but with CPC off. I tried settings of: 2-3-2-6 @ 200mhz 2.6vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface On Errors Test7 2-3-2-6 @ 200mhz 2.6vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface Off Errors Test7 2-3-2-6 @ 200mhz 2.7vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface On Errors Test7 2-3-2-6 @ 200mhz 2.7vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface Off Errors Test7 3-3-3-9 @ 200mhz 2.6vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface Off Errors Test7 3-3-3-9 @ 200mhz 2.6vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface On Errors Test7 3-3-3-9 @ 200mhz 2.7vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface On Errors Test7 3-3-3-9 @ 200mhz 2.7vDimm CPU Multi 9 CPU Interface Off Errors Test7 I know CH-5 doesn't like vDimm above 2.7 but I tried 2.8 and 2.9 on all of those and still recieved errors. Note that all those above settings is with the cpu at 200x9.0 (CPU is a 2800+) I even decided to try running the 2800+ at stock speeds and syncing the ram with it (166fsb) and still recieved errors!!!! I tried a LOT more combinations and it was all the same result :( I decided I would take it a step further and find out which stick was the defective one. After testing I found that only one of the sticks are defective, I also tested it in Slot 1, 2 & 3, all recieving errors. Where's RAM Guy? I don't want to repost on the Warranty Forum, but I want to request an RMA.

mikalcarbine257
I have a question, on the RMA form it asks for location purchased and date, I got these from an RMA becuase the ram I first bought from Zipzoomfly was defective also, what should I put? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 6, 2005 Was the RMA from Zip Zoom Fly or from us? If you had these replaced by us and you are still haveing problems, that would suggest some other issue. What are the exact settings and configuration of your system? mikalcarbine257
I got these from you guys. This is on a different motherboard than I was using before too. My system specs are: Abit nf7-s rev 2.0 Amd athlon xp 2800+ twinx1024-3200ll PNY Verto 6800 Creative Soundblaster audigy 2 zs Hauppage wintv-pvr250 2x Maxtor 6y080m0 on raid 0 Sony CRX225E Pioneer 16x DVD Drive OCZ 520w Powerstream My configurations for when I am getting errors ranges from SPD to way below SPD such as: (note this is in cpc off mode) 166fsb (ratio 6/6 to cpu) timings 2-3-2-6 Errors 200fsb (Cpu Multi 9, ratio 6/6) timings 2-3-2-6 Errors They run in cpc on without errors (so I think, the most I have memtested was 20 hours, but they seem stable) But in cpc off that one stick gets errors no matter what. :(:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 6, 2005 That does not make sence, because CPC off would be less loading. I would try and load setup defaults and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and set the memory Freq to 1-1 or 3-3 or 6-6 and set the CPU Freq to 166 MHz and test the modules. If that passes then I would suspect its the settings you are trying to run that may be causing the errors.
mikalcarbine257
Ok, I'll go try that now
mikalcarbine257
Ok, I just tested it, I loaded defaults and changed the ratio to 3-3 4-4 and 6-6 with spd timings and vDimm of 2.7, I got errors on test 7 in all of those. It doesn't make sense, cpc off is a looser command rate timing.
mikalcarbine257
I realized my memtest version was 3.0!! So I updated to 3.2 and tested. It was fine, no errors (I did one pass) on the settings above. Could this be because 3.2 has more fixes or something than 3.0? or did it just not test the 01000000 bit code like test7 did on memtest 3.0 (that was the adress I got errors on all the times in cpc off)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 6, 2005 You might try http://www.memtest.org to verify there are no errors! And is your system stable?
mikalcarbine257
I decided to see how my ram would handle overclocked on cpc off with the new memtest 3.2. I brought it up to the same settings that were stable on cpc on, (217fsb, 2-3-2-11, 2.7) and I ran memtest, no errors for a pass. I am going to do some more testing (aka hardcore gaming) to see if it is stable. I'll report back later.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 6, 2005 Well if you are not getting errors at 217 Mhz I would say your modules are fine. But yes please let us know how you make out!
mikalcarbine257
Just played source for quite a while and it worked without a hitch. I would have to say my memory is fine and that it was just memtest 3.0 that was glitching or something
