ATX 2.0 Compliant PSU

How important is having an ATX 2.0 compliant PSU when matching up motherboards? I have an MSI Neo2 Platinum giving me 'no screen, no boot' problems. I think it's the memory I tried to use (CORSAIR XMS, Xtra-Low Latency 2-2-2-5, 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, Model TWINX1024-3200XLPRO), so I will try something else and see if that works, but I've been reading that the new MBs should run off ATX 2.0 compliant PSUs and the one I have (Thermaltake 560W model #W0023) shows only ATX. Does this 2.0 thing matter...really?

Just by looking at the specifications of the power supply I would say it isn't ATX 2.0 complaint. It only has one rail for the +12V. To be ATX 2.0 compliant it must have at least 2 +12V rails, some have three as a result of also being PCIe (PCI Express) compliant. One is for the system in general, one is for the CPU only and the other is for the PCI Express cards.

The latest specifications for the Intel CPU's are requiring there to be on +12V rail available on the power supply just for the CPU. However, the CPU will still be able to draw power from the other +12V line that isn't for the PCIe through the motherboard.

At least that is where my understanding of what I have read on the matter thus far leads me to believe.

I cannot determine from your information that you are providing whether you are running an Intel setup or an AMD setup though. There is an MSI Neo 2 Platinum for both platforms. The Intel is the 915P and the AMD is the K8N. If it is an Intel setup and you are running a Prescott CPU that is 3.2GHz or more, then you may be experiencing PSU issues from what you describe. This is speculation on my part though.

I am trying to run an AMD (3500+) 939 socket. When I installed the MSI Neo2 Platinum there were connections from the Thermaltake 560W #W0023 for all MB connections and for the video card, etc., and everything was running (including the MB fans). If I have the connections is that all I need to be concerned about?

I just could not get a 'screen' or post at all. I think this is a memory/bios thing, but I can't get at the bios without a screen. Thanks for the help.

You may want to read through the experiences of people on Thermaltake PSU's in this thread:

The solution was to replace it with something else, like an Enermax, Antec or Ultra-X for example.

I was looking at your PSU and it only has 22A on the +12V line, compared to my Antec True430 which has 26A on the +12V line. Because today's CPU's are rather heavy on the +12V line, it is wise to have a PSU with a beefy +12V line. Even if the PSU isn't the issue, I would seriously consider a different unit.
