SatnaV
i purschased new TwinX 3200XL 1GB over xmas to add to my system which already has 1gb TwinX 3200LLPT.so now 2gb with 2.5-2-3-6 timings @ 2.7V ,dual channel. after boot up i started haveing random system crashes and data corruption. i removed the new ram TwinX 3200XL and system worked fine, then i installed TwinX 3200XL back in and ran MemTest-86 v3.2 and only after the first pass i had over 1200 errors(thats alot of errors).ran MemTest with old 3200LLPT and no errors. are my TwinX 3200XL modules dead? http://img47.exs.cx/img47/1008/memtest1pass.jpg http://img118.exs.cx/img118/4610/memtest2pass.jpg system specs:A64 3500 Asus A8V

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2005 First thing, with this platform you cannot mix memory. I would try just the new modules installed in slots 2-4 and load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and set the timings manually then test with http://www.memtest.org to be sure. CAS Latency CL=2.0 Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 2 Row to Row delay Bios Default Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 5 Row Precharge Time tRP 2 Write Recovery Time Bios Default Write to Read delay Bios Default Read to Write Delay Bios Default Refresh Period tREF Bios Default Enable 2T Timing Disabled Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org and make sure it's stable! With 4 modules you will have to enable 2T Command Rate as well.
Wired
Also, please do not bump a thread: 1) within 24 hours of the original post. 2) on a saturday (as well as a holiday nonetheless) when Corsair is closed and there will be no response until monday. SatnaV
yeah sorry about the bump.:o: ok, i followed your instructions to the letter and now have only 20 errors. is this acceptable? http://img105.exs.cx/img105/314/PICT0012.jpg
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 4, 2005 Errors in test 5 would suggest some other issue. I would try and set the Rass to Cass (TRCD) to "3" and you should have the Dim Voltage set to 2.8 Volts as well. And do you have the modules in slots 2-4? And can you tell me the bios version you have installed and the make and model of PSU you have?
SatnaV
ok, i set the trcd to 3 and the Dim Voltage is 2.8 Volts. 2T is disabled.modules are in slots 2&4. now i get 130 errors in test5. http://img27.exs.cx/img27/7486/PICT200.jpg bios is lastest 1.009(Asus A8V).PSU is a thermaltake 480w http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W0026.htm
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 5, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 5, 2005 Please change your PSU; since allot of people is having the same problem when using that PSU.
SatnaV
Please change your PSU; since allot of people is having the same problem when using that PSU. does 3200XL require a extemely stable supply? what PSU do you recommended? i don't want to buy a PSU a still get ram errors. will a 'Antec Truepower 550 Watt True Power' be good, since it has dedicated output circuitry for each voltage output. thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 6, 2005 I would suggest Ennermax or Sparkle, or my personal favorite is PC Power and Cooling. But I have no problem replacing your modules if you want to try that. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! SatnaV
i took the modules back to the PC shop and they tested them in 2 different PC's and had errors as well so they are going to RMA them back to corsair for me. thanks for your help RAMGUY! SatnaV
No Problem, please let me know when you get the new modules! i got new replacement modules and they have passed all tests in MemTest-86 v3.2. but when i add my 3200LL modules@2-3-2-6 i get a few errors, i guess my A8V mobo don't like mixing ram with different timings. :sigh!: i think i'll sell my 3200LL ram and buy some more 3200XL or maybe a different mobo. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 14, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 14, 2005 Any MB does not like mixing RAM; mixing and matching memory module is not recommended nor guaranteed, the only thing that we can say is that you can try it may or may not work! You can try to set the settings on your A8V ASUS board at 2.5/3/3/7 or 2/3/2/6 with 2.8 volts, and see how it goes!
