Asad
Hi, I have got a pair of CMX256A-4000PT (v3.1) and I am getting errors with memtest86+ while in dual channel mode. I have an Asus P4C800E-Deluxe. I have set the timings and other settings to what was recommend in the corsair thread. I have to hand another pair of CMX256A-4000 (v1.1 black heat spreaders) and these run fine at the exact same settings with no errors. What is my next step? Many thanks Asad

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 30, 2004 Please try setting the Dram Voltage to 2.85 Volts and are you using active cooling on the chipset? And can you tell me what test gives you errors?
Asad
Just tested it. Set the DRAM voltage to 2.85. Failed on test #4 and test #5. Rebooted automatically during test #5 after lots of errors. I have a fan on the standard Asus Heatsink on the northbridge. Asad

Asad
okay, im ready to complete the RMA form and send the RAM. Quick question though... With this new kit, I now will have 4 x 256Mb sticks. When I had them all installed, they were actually touching, and i'm not sure how this will affect the temperature of the sticks. And so the question... Would corsair take 4 x 256MB sticks off me and send me 2 x 512mb sticks? Cheeky I know but its worth a try. Maybe they need CMX256A-4000PT. At the moment i have i good pair, and another pair with 1 faulty stick. So what do you think? :D: Asad

Asad
Hi, My memory has been sent to Corsair. Do they send an email to say they have recieved the memory? just want to make sure they recieve the sticks okay. Oh, and by the way, Corsair were extremely helpful in my 4 stick situation! They have guaranteed that i will always purchase corsair memory! Asad

Asad
Hi, I was happy to recieve my replacement modules today, especially as I thought they were lost in transit. Unfortunately, these replacement sticks are giving me errors :(: In Dual Channel mode with the following settings :- FSB is 250Mhz PAT is set to Auto, HT is enabled. Performance mode is set to Standard. DRAM CAS# Latency 3 DRAM RAS# Precharge 4 DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay 4 DRAM Precharge Delay 8 DRAM Burst Length 4 PAT - Auto DRAM Idle Timer - Auto DRAM Refresh Rate - Auto I get errors as shown in the attachment. I also tired by lowering the fsb to 240mhz and i still recieved errors, in test 4 i believe. I would like to point out that I had a pair of CMX256A-4000 which did not have any errors. I had tested my old pair extensively and it ran at 250Fsb flawlessly. What should be my next step? Asad

Asad
I'll try that when i get home. But as i said, the memory which i sent to corsair, worked fine with these exact settings. Asad
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 1, 2005 Did you set the Dim Voltage to 2.8X volts and I would suggest going to bios setup and loading setup defaults and then set all of the settings again to clear the bios out as well
Asad
The Bios was reset. the voltage is at 2.85v. I have tried without PAT and still get errors. I have not tried the sticks on thier own, only in Dual channel mode. Any more suggestions? Asad
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 1, 2005 Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
Asad
Hi, The system is the exact same as in the start of this thread. I have just tried the settings again and got major errors when loading windows. The second time, windows just rebooted. Still getting errors in memtest. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 2, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 2, 2005 I would try these settings and then test the system one module at a time with http://www.memtest.org after you load setup defaults. FSB is 250Mhz If you get errors with both modules I would try and lower the Freq to like 240 Mhz just to test! Dim Voltage: 2.85 Volts and please make sure you have extra cooling for the chipset as well. PAT is set to Auto, HT is enabled. Performance mode is set to AUTO DRAM CAS# Latency 3 DRAM RAS# Precharge 4 DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay 4 DRAM Precharge Delay 8 DRAM Burst Length 4 PAT - Auto DRAM Idle Timer - Auto DRAM Refresh Rate - Auto
Asad
I have tried those exact settings in Dual channel mode. I lowered the FSB to 240Mhz and still got errors, although there weren't as many. I'll try the modules on their own next and post the results for you. Thanks for your help Asad
