SRuiner
Just installed these modules, and have some questions. Please bear with me, I'm rather new to working with RAM. I built this computer but other than putting pieces together I'm not real familiar with the inner-workings. First off, I had a slow boot. I'm running an Intel 865PERL board with a 3.06 Pentium4 under Win2000 Pro. I was using a VS512MB400 module until I upgraded to the TWINX-3200C2P2. In the BIOS there are 4 settings for the memory after I set timings to User-Defined. Mine are set at.. -SDRAM RAS Act. to Pre. - 7 -SDRAM CAS# Latency - 3.0 -SDRAM RAS# to CAS# Latency - 3 -SDRAM RAS# Precharge - 3 I don't know if these settings are correct. I read at newegg that it supposed to be running at 2-3-3-6 or something but I don't know where to input those values. The RAM is running at 333mhz, which was automatically determined by the board. My system FSB is 533mhz. I read a bit on these forums before putting the RAM in, but I really don't know what else to do. If I left any important info out please let me know and I'll try to provide it. Thanks. EDIT - I forgot the most important part. My system will reboot itself now. When I was just typing this post it had been on for a good 10-15min before it reboot. When I tried to run Counter-Strike : Source's Video Stress Test, it almost immediately rebooted. Also I looked in to BIOS and took note of these settings... SDRAM FREQ - AUTO CPC OVERRIDE - AUTO I don't know it that sheds any more light on the situation, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 29, 2004 With a 533FSB CPU you would be limited to DDR333 and you can try and set the timings to the tested settings, but this MB may not give you the option to set the Dim Voltage to the suggested setting of 2,75 Volts and if not I would suggest Cass 2.5-3-3-7 or: -SDRAM RAS Act. to Pre. - 7 -SDRAM CAS# Latency - 2.5 -SDRAM RAS# to CAS# Latency - 3 -SDRAM RAS# Precharge -
SRuiner
So I should leave the Frequency at AUTO or change it to either 333mhz or 200mhz?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 29, 2004 I dont think you can change it on that MB, but yes it should be set to DDR333 with a 533 FSB CPU!
SRuiner
It looks like that may have worked. Are those latency settings poor? Could I get any better settings out of these modules?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 29, 2004 As I posted you can try it at Cass 2-3-3-6, but I would test the system with http://www.memtest.org to be sure its stable.
SRuiner
I may be treading into a different forum's territory now, but I ran Memtest86+. 2 passes with 0 errors, but I noticed something that seemed peculiar to me, but maybe not to some more experienced people. My FSB was listed at 133mhz even though in the BIOS it states it's 533mhz. Also the RAM was said to be DDR332 and something like 128mhz. Is any of that odd? I'd like to get my mobo and RAM working together well. Any help would be appreciated.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 30, 2004 No that would be correct. P4 would have a 133 Mhz clock speed or 133 X 4 = 533. And with a 533 Mhz CPU you would be limited to DDR333 with this platform.
SRuiner
Would there be a problem running my VS512MB400 module with these 3200C2PT's at 2.5-3-3-7? I'd like to use all of my RAM but I don't want to cause any conflicts. Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 30, 2004 Well you are welcome to try it, but many MB's will not post if the modules are not all exactly matched, or they may set the memory PC-2100 speed.
