Corsair H100i v2 Fan Stuck at 2100rpm

Hi all,

My new H100i v2 is obnoxiously loud even when I'm just idling on the desktop. The fans appear to be running at 2100rpm +-40 nearly constantly, regardless of temperature. I've tried to set a custom curve to keep RPMs down at low temperatures (the pump temp is at ~24.5 as I write this) but it hasn't had any impact on the fan speed at all. Likewise, when I try to adjust the curve upwards to max out the fans nothing changes.

I've tried to use SIV to control the fans, but it doesn't seem to have any control either.

My ears would appreciate any help you can provide.

SIV is having issues reading the temperature, pump and fan speeds. What does [Cooling Status] report? I wonder, have you disabled CPU Fan control in the BIOS? See http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=851520 point #4.

I wonder why CL4 is still reporting none zero values and suspect this may well be yet another bug in CL4.

You also need to set lower temperature points as it's the coolant temperature that controls the fan speed. See http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=851360

You failed to answer this :asskick:

There's the cooling status. T1 SYSTIN looks... high.

It's possible that T1 SYSTIN is not used on your board and I need to adjust SIV to stop displaying it. Exactly what board is it, post the SIV initial screen. This happens from time-to-time with most sensor reporting programs, see http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=788225

The initial screen:

SIV 5.09 does not have any specific support for the Z170I, so I need to add this. It would be handy if you sent me the [save Selected] files so I can double check what is needed and test the changes.

Given CPU Fan control is disabled I can't think what the issue could be.

  1. If you change from Custom to PWM mode and then change the fan PWM % do the fans change speed?
  2. In the [Cooling Status] you posted the CPU Fan is 904 when the H100iV2 Fan is 2,100. These should be identical so something is wonky. Given both SIV and CL4 report this it can't be a software issue.
  3. If you look at [Cooling Status] how often do the H100iV2 values get reported as zero? When the value is zero Samples will not get incremented, so it's easy to tell if this has happened from low sample counts.

  1. No, nothing changes.
  2. It seems to drop to 0 once or twice a minute.

  1. It should so I am starting to think there must be a hardware issue with your H100iV2 and you may need to RMA it. Log a call via https://corsair.secure.force.com/home/home.jsp and see what they think.
  2. This should not happen.
  3. I would like to see what [Cooling Status] reports for a different H100iV2. It would be good if another H100iV2 owner would post [Cooling Status] from their system.
  4. Thank you for the save file which I used to decide what to change and test SIV the changes. Please try SIV 5.10 Beta-11 or later.
  5. In the save file the H100iV2 Fan speed is 0 and the CPU Fan speed is 900 which seems strange to me, though I really need to see what another H100iV2 reports so I can confirm they should be about the same.

This is strange behavior. Even on the erroneous "CPU temperature" custom curve, that fans should have run at the minimum, not the maximum.

Do the fans change speed at all on the normal balance, performance, or quiet profiles? If they are still stuck at maximum, if you are sure the CPU_FAN is set to "FULL SPEED and PWM" in the BIOS, and if AI Suite is not trying to control the header with H100i V2, then Ray is right and there is a hardware problem with the controller.

Thank you. Please can you confirm that your H100iV2 is connected to the motherboard CHA Fan 1 header.

Assuming so then as ThirstMutilator's H100iV2 Fan and CPU Fan are vastly different then I feel that H100iV2 is faulty.

It's connected to CPU Fan 2 Header. I don't have anything connected to the MB headers except for the pump so that is it.

I haven't tried setting "full speed" and "pwm" in the BIOS; Q-Fan control is currently just disabled. I'll try changing that and see if it has any effect, otherwise I guess I'll need to RMA.

It should work either way, but sometimes I wonder if the Asus "auto detect" puts it into the wrong mode (DC/PWM). Manually setting it would remove the doubt and is an easy thing to try. Setting the CPU_FAN header to "Full Speed" will also disable any AI Suite control over the header, if you are running that software.

AI Suite control over the header, if you are running that software.

You should not even have AI Suite installed if you are using any other monitoring software such as Corsair Link.
