Snakebite6x6x6
About a month ago i purchased some Corsair Twinx 512meg sticks (total of 1024megs) er...model number is CMX512-3200c2pt XMS3202v5.1 anyway....up until this past weekend all had been well....and then i started getting stop errors left and right....but they were all different errors.... so i started swapping out parts to see if it remedied the situation....i swapped psu, mobo, and video cards.....then i started playing with the ram...and i found that i could run fine (as i am now) with one stick in...but not with both sticks, or with the other stick in...so it leads me to believe that one of my sticks has somehow gone bad:( that is all i can think of at this point....so my only option was to come here and try to get an rma...i tried the ram in all slots in all possible configurations....i have tried changing almost all of my bios settings that pertain to ram (aside from speed). so if i dont have a bad stick....any idea on what the problem is would be appreciated... also...i have seen the recommendation to run memtest many times in here...but is there a way to make a bootable memtest cdrom? as i dont have a floppy drive in my machine... Pentium 4 3.2Ghz E ASRock p4v88 mobo Corsair Twinx 1024(2x512) 3200C2PT eVGA geforce 6800ultra everything is running at stock speed, no overclocks..... oh yeah...and if i do rma it...do i have to send both sticks..as they were a packaged deal...or can i just send the bad one and not have to go without my computer :/ er..also...i would rma it to newegg.com...but i dont have the original packaging anymore....and they wont take it with out it... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 28, 2004 And I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts as well. But please let us know!
Snakebite6x6x6
ok...ran the test as soon as i came home from work...first with both sticks in....and then again with the stick that i haven't been getting errors with in.. the test with both sticks came back with 2250 errors.....they started on test 4 i believe...but possibly test 3...... then to my amazement, the stick i am using, the one that has given my no issues... came back with 4 errors...is that normal? i mean..is there always SOME errors, or am i correct in believing there should be NONE..... they all happened in test 5 on that stick.... as for setting my dimm voltage higher....i cant set individual voltages in my bios...( i could with my msi, wish i still had it now) it only has settings for normal, and high...without any definition as to what they are. this is depressing :(:(:(:( the first time i bought quality ram.......*snif* so much for my bragging rights over my friends :P
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 29, 2004 Getting random errors like that would suggest some other problem. And I am sorry, but if you cant set the Dim Voltage it may not be stable at Cass 2. You might try and relax the timings to Cass 3-3-3-8 and see if its more stable. And Do you still have the MSI MB? You may want to use that MB instead. Also I would check with the MB maker and see if there is a new bios that may allow you to set the Dim Voltage!
