LarryJ
Mr. RAMGuy: I have two sticks of Corsair Platinum TwinX CMX512-4000PT in the blue slots of my Asus P4800E Deluxe MB. Alone they work fine in the blue slots. I thought I would eventually overclock the board but I never have. P4 is a 3.2C. With declining RAM prices, I decided to purchase more RAM. From NewEgg I purchased two sticks of Crucial MT8VDDT64X64AG-3350B 512MB DDR 333 CL2.5 (CT6464z335.8td2) in an attempt to boost the total memory to 2 GB. When installed in the black slots with the Corsair in the blue slots, the MB doesn't pass POST. If the Corsair sticks are removed from the blue slots and the Crucial pair inserted in the blue slots alone, the MB passes post. I'd be happy with slower memory, I'd just like more! I'm getting ready to return the memory to NewEgg. Is there anything I can try before I give up? Could you recommend Crucial RAM that would be guaranteed to POST? Thank you, Larry
CMC_SAVAGE
Could you recommend Crucial RAM that would be guaranteed to POST? What........?? First off, mixing different makes of RAM is a bad idea in general. If you need advice on adding more "Corsair" RAM, no problem. You can try posting here: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v2/forumdisplay.php?f=10 http://www.houseofmobos.com/index.php?
LarryJ
Sorry. Didn't intend "Crucial" intended to write "Corsair" hoping for a recommendation compatible with the the two modules I already have, hopefully at a lower price. The PC2700 Crucial memory is headed back to Newegg. Thanks for the references. I'll look there. Surely I'm not the only one that Asus lead astray by implying that a slower second pair of slower memory modules will work just fine but at the lower speed. So far my finding is that this is not true. Larry
CMC_SAVAGE
If you plan on addding to the Corsair RAM that you have, I'd get the same modules. There's more headroom for OC'ing, these were intended for an Intel platform anyway.
