thedustroom
I recently bought 2 sets of 1GByte TwinX Pro 400Mhz matched pair (XMS3202) I have an ABit AV8 - 3rd Eye mobo with an AMD Athlon 64FX 55 in it (everything as stock, nothing overclocked etc). If I install both sets of DIMMs then I only detect 1GB, and only one set lights up, either set do work alone in either memory channel on the mobo but don't work together - when together the pair of DIMMs that startup with one LED lit in the center of the module become the "dominent" pair and are the only modules that work. The only visible difference is that the version numbers are different, the "dominent" set are XMS3202v4.1 and the others are a previous version number. I have already returned the "dominent" set to the supplier but have recieved the same set back as "they do work" (when on their own). Obviously I'm not too happy with my supplier as I paid for (and require) 2GB and I currently am only able to use 1GB and they're being pretty unhelpful. Please can you advise what I can do with this odd situation? :(:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 25, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 25, 2004 First thing, I am sorry that you are having trouble, but we only officially support one set of Twinx modules at the rated speed on any system. There are just too many possibilities. In addition, with this platform all of the modules would all need to be identically matched both in part# and revision. Sorry just a limitation of the memory controller. And if you need to use 2.0 Gig of memory we would suggest you use Twinx2048-3200C2 with this platform for best performance. If your reseller will not help you the best I can offer would be to RMA all of your modules, but you will need to request the same revision in your email RMA request. thedustroom
OK if you could RMA these modules and advise what I can do next that would be great, if it would be best for me to replace these 4 DIMMs with 2x1GB DIMMs would that be possible and if so would there be a cost for doing this? Alternatively would it be advisable to try to get 2 sets of matched pair modules with the same revision number? Thanks you for your attention. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2005 Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! We would recommend you to get TwinX set 2GB total which is 2 sticks of 1GB modules; advising you to purchase 2 sets of 1GB kits will not be advisable, since the odds of getting the same revisions are too high unless you can physically choose the modules or especially request it.
