RAM Heatsink won't fit on motherboard

Are the heatsinks really necessary?

I am building a new system, and for the MB I chose the Asus Sabertooth TUF x99. For the memory, the Corsair Dominator Platinum 3000Mhz 4x8 32GB kit.

I didn't realize the RAM came with a heatsink. The configuration for four DIMMs on the MB is two on either side of the CPU (the board has four DIMMs on either side of the CPU).

With the motherboards 'armored' structure, the heatsink cannot be mounted on the left side of the CPU which leaves two of the memory modules without a heatsink.

So as I opened this post, are the heat sinks really necessary? What are my options? I've not yet come across a heatsink for memory and I'd rather not return the memory to find an alternative.

Thanks for the advice!

You don't need to use the airflow fan kit, but don't remove the heat spreaders from the individual modules.

The armored structure can probably be removed from the motherboard without voiding its warranty. Please check with Asus to be safe. If so, you could put on the airflow fan kit if you'd prefer.

Thank you! I'll just proceed as usual without the fan kit. :)

You shouldn't need it and if it's any consolation, I am not sure the fans will work without armor or on any other Asus X99 board. Any moderate thickness GPU gets very close to the bottom of the module slots. Depending upon your case, the memory fans may actually be more a hindrance to case airflow than an asset. So unless you were planning to run a full deck of 8 at 1.40v+, you should be fine with normal case management.
