VLestat
Hi there, I have a system running 4GB of CMX1024RE-3200 and have been experiencing errors in Windows. I am running: 4 x CMX1024RE-3200 Asus SK8V Athlon FX51 some other junk Just wondering what the correct bios settings are for this particular configuration, or if there are any known issues with this configuration. RAMGUY, your help is greatly appreciated. Mike Gorman

VLestat
Thanks for the info ramguy. Unfortunately I am still getting the same crash after about 15 minutes of burn in testing with 3DMark03. The system works fine with 2 dimms of 1GB running in dual channel, it's only after trying to run four gigabytes that it locks up. The latest version of memtest x86+ says that everything is fine, but it's not. Any insight would be appreciated. Also, if it's possible to not run ECC that would be preferential as this system is aimed at performance. Thanks again, Mike Gorman Voodoo PC
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 22, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 22, 2004 You are welcome to try it with out ECC enabled, but with 4 1.0 Gig modules I would suggest you leave it enabled.
VLestat
One more question, is there any advantage to having over 2GB in Windows XP Professional? Can XP even address more than 2GB for running programs or any purpose? Thanks again, Mike Gorman VoodooPC
ImmortalZ
The amount of memory that is addressable is limited by the number of address lines the CPU has. And IIRC, the x86 architecture can address memory upto the terabyte range. So its not a question of whether it can be accessed or not. It whether it can be really used. Do you run a server or maybe a database server machine? Otherwise, I dont see the point. Not that me seeing the point matters but... ;)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 23, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 23, 2004 Well WinXP will limit applications to no more than 2.0 Gig of memory. And I do not know if that can be changed, you would need to address that to Microsoft. And the Max memory is 4 gig bit with Win2K or WinXP as I understand it, again I would direct you to Microsoft for more details. However with Win2K/2003 Enterprise Server or any Enterprise level Server O.S. more than 4.0 Gig of memory can be addressed with a switch in the Boot.ini file. VLestat
This isn't even my own machine. It's in for service. I highly doubt that they are using even close to 1GB of memory on the machine, but that's unfortunately irrelevant. Does anyone know if this motherboard supports any 2GB sticks? Should I enable 4G remapping in the bios? I have had it with this machine. Mike Gorman
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 27, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 27, 2004 Yes it should support 1.0 Gig moudles, but you can check with the MB maker and see if they have tested any 1.0 Gig modules with that MB to e sure.
