mattgreenrocks
It's winter, which means static buildup is inevitable. I forgot to ground myself by touching the case before plugging in an Xbox 360 controller to my Corsair 350D. When I brought the USB connector to the front face plate, there was a static discharge and my computer restarted, which is pretty scary. What can I do to fix this? I've already verified that the outlet is properly grounded with an outlet tester, so that's out of the picture. I don't have any other issues with static on this build. Toasted
Adding a humidifier may help but it will probably be best to Google some tips/suggestions on preventing static buildup during winter.
mattgreenrocks
So the real fix is changing the environment so it's harder for it to happen again? I was hoping to discuss whether the front plate of the case is adequately grounded, and how I could tell if it was (or not). I'm not sure if the static discharge went through the USB connector, or it tripped the reset button. Obviously, I don't want to replicate this. Toasted
Most likely if the static issue only occurs throughout winter. The case is most likely fine. If it wasn't, i would have suspected something would not be working normally after the static discharge.
