Misty2k
Hi, I have just bought an H2100 headset and so far I like the sound and feel, however, I do have one issue. I like to have my headset as a quick alternative to the PC speakers. i.e. I want my Speakers to be the Default option, but if I want to use the headset, I want to just switch it on and have the sound via heaset and turn the speakers off via their on/off volume control. Then, when I turn the headest off, I'd just switch the speakers back on. To put it another way, I want TWO default devices with sound coming out of both, but choose which one (or even both) to switch on. Is this possible? I am using Win 7, 64 Bit with on-board sound. Thanks Dee
Administrators Technobeard Posted January 24, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 24, 2016 You'd need a 3rd party application to do something like this.
kevp453
I'm in the same boat as you. I've got a janky solution, but it works. Plug in a turn on your headset. Right click on the volume icon in your taskbar and select Playback Devices Select your headset and choose it as default. Now, the weird part. I use the extension cable for USB dongle. When I want to use the speakers, I just pop out the usb dongle from the extension cable. When I want the headset I pop the USB back in and since it is the default it changes over to the headset. It's not the best solution, but it works for me.

Sadly, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 (had to do a complete rebuild with new SSD + HD drives) and the workaround I show in the video above no longer works. However, thanks to you KevP, I tried your way and it works. I refined it a bit though and added this in-line USB switch. It is meant to allow you to switch a USB device from one PC to another, but I just have it plugged in on one side with nothing in the other so it works like an on/off switch. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002YOVDSS/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_0oZ6wb02XAXZG Word of caution. If you are going to do this, don't accidentally buy a USB On/Off switch. I looked at those all the ones I found only carry power, not data so won't do the job.
