trainut
introduce myself just joined a total newbie to building and overclocking, as I am very old not to tech savvie so please excuse, pc spec to start coolmaster cosmos case. rm850psu z170 ranger 8 mobo i7 6700k. 16 gb ram3000 ripjaw h110igt cooler 280 rad. boot drive 250 ssd 2x1tb Seagate hardrives 1x3tb hardrive gtx 970 , istarted my first overclock with the A1suite this went to 5 and I then stopped it . dare not let it go further thought it would cook, did short stress I hour seemed ok at4.8 but I am happy at 4.5 or 6 voltage at 5 was 3. something I am now trying in the bios, and getting good results at lower voltage 1.27 64 degress average on stress now my question is when I save to profile the next time I boot in windows I get megatreands stopping boot asking to CPU FAN ERROR now I have checked pump and all fans and correct board connections all seems fine on strees tests again all seems correct. I have tried to attach a photo of problem not sure if I did it correct
Toasted
How are your CPU temperatures? Are they fine? You can check this by pressing F1 to enter the UEFI BIOS.
trainut
temps are all fine even on a small overclock say 4.5 62 average never no higher around 1.26 volts it as though it does not see a water cooler I did plug into the pump header and not a fan header may try a change. megatrends are so vague:sigh!:
Toasted
Plug the header into the CPU_FAN header. It should remove the error. If it's already plugged in but the error is still being displayed, it could be something wrong with tachometer wire. If that is the case, you can turn off the error on POST in the UEFI BIOS or if you want, request an RMA to replace the cooler via Corsair.
trainut
thanks for your input I have been thinking on the same lines. ill give it a try don't want to rma if I can help it will leave results on Wednesday as away till then
trainut
would it be a good idea to clear cmos before I try a reboot
Toasted
Doubt it will do anything if the 3-pin is not working.
red-ray
I get megatreands stopping boot asking to CPU FAN ERROR How do you have the CPU fan control setup in the BIOS? On some ASUS boards you need to select PWM fan control, so try doing that and the issue may be resolved.
trainut
I will have a look at the fan control setting , I now have tried different headers megatreands still persists so I have got rid my only opotion ignore setting that got rid and I can now operate again I do have another question how do you use a profiled overclock and how do you return to stock in my case 4 ghz all my fans are showing r.p.m. and pump showing 2000 + conclusion not sure yet but nervous about trying overclock a lot of wasted time
Toasted
Refer to your motherboard's user manual for auto overclocking features. Though when you do find the time, it will be best to manually set voltages, etc as some auto overclocking profiles just set the CPU voltage really high. trainut
when I did my first I went a1 suite temps went to around80 this botherd me also volts were high like you say but I stopped it at 5.1 after it finished it stressed out at 4.8 but I did not profile that it was my first go / I wont use that again using bios now I only want around 4.5/6 tops
trainut
thanks for input lads well I did a few overclocks last couple of days most in bios I always seem to get same results bios 4.8@1.312 volts a1 suite as shot about same ran the a1 for 8.23 mins stress all night still going this morning,. if I lower the voltage to say 1.29 I only get 4.6 the temps mainly 59 only when it got to 5 did it reach 71 megaatreands as stayed away thank god my cooling system is not even breaking a sweat I would like to no ,.when I now boot up it says overclock is 20% does this mean its already running at that or what it will go to if I use my flight sim
trainut
today I did overclock in 5 way duel intelligent prcessors the one click wonder overclocker all went well filled in correct bits according to asus rep on u yube went to just under 5 then crashed as it is supposed to. temps at 4.9 all ok voltage 1.336 reported back 4.8 was stable then I got the blue screen just as it was going into fan con fig after that every time windows tried to load blue then black I thought this was supposed to be safe to rectify it crashed just before 5, now I only want 4.5 or 6 if put that in it runs for 30 seconds then cashes do you recon my mobo as afault
Toasted
I don't think its a faulty motherboard. I would still suggest you manually overclock the CPU starting from the stock then slowly increasing it after each stress test rather than allowing the auto overclock stuff to do it things. You can take a look at this thread as it may provide you with some useful information. http://www.overclock.net/t/1570313/skylake-overclocking-guide-with-statistics
