DreamT
Hi guys ! I do some overclocking but I'm stoped by something that I want to be sure. My motherboard is ASUS K8N-E Deluxe with 1005 Bios. CPU : A64 3000+ RAM is TWINX512-3200LL (2-3-2-6) At 220 FSB, HT: 4, 1.575 vcore, 2.7 vdimm, 333mhz (2-3-2-6 timing), my system is rock stable. I passed some test with Prime95 and it's ok. I did some MemTest86 also and it's good. The memory runs at 183 mhz with those settings (CPU-Z) The problem is here. When I go to 225, the memory makes errors in Memtest86. I try to lower the timing (3-3-3-8) but I have the same errors. Try to up the vcore to 1.6 and 1.625 and no change. Try also to lower the HT at 3 and nothing ... the same errors still there. Also, I try to pass the Prime95 test and it stop after 1 min so.... With this motherboard, the higher vdimm I can go is 2.7. I know it's bad. So I thought that it's was the problem. Do you think it's the voltage of the memory or anything else ? thanks
Wired
Does it work @ 400 Mhz DDR (200x2)?
DreamT
Yes it works great. I slow down to 333mhz for overclocking purpose !
Wired
If the memory is running under 400 Mhz then it isn't the memory causing it as it's running under spec.
DreamT
ok ! So, to be sure, something else can makes errors in Memtest86 without being the DDR Ram in problem ?
DreamT
Just for fun, I tried to put the DDR to 266mhz and I can get the FSB to 225 without memtest86 error.
Yellowbeard
You are running asynchronous when you have the RAM at 183mhz and the CPU at 225mhz. This causes more strain on the memory controller. This could be the cause of your errors in Memtest. Just to test again, try 333 but set the timings at 2.5,3,3,7. This may help to identify the problem. In the past, AMD MOBOs do not like asynch mode. Good luck, Mike.
