Slipperyseal
Hello i just bought a pair of 1 gig ddr 400 xms 3200 dual channel xtra-low latency ram. I am running on an asus A7N8X Delux (old revision, not 2.0). When i put the memory in the system sometimes locks up before getting into windows, or during the loading process. If it does make it into windows my screen goes black everytime i open a new window (ex. control panel). If i dont do anything it eventually locks up. I can never run it in windows for longer then 30 seconds. Im guessing its a bios setting, what should i do? Im leaving for holiday break to brasil in a bout 2 hours, if i dont finx a fix by then i guess ill have to post again here when i come back, thanks for the help in advance. Happy holidays. CMC_SAVAGE
What CPU are you using? and what is the FSB. Do you know the REV of the MOBO? and what BIOS version.
Slipperyseal
its a Socket A barton 3000, 200 fsb. (200x10.5) Im using bios 1007, which is the latest one. I do not know what revision it is, how do i check? It has to be one of these 1.03, 1.04, or 1.06.
CMC_SAVAGE
You could try to manually set the timings and bump the Dimm voltage up. Don't go past 2.9 though. Also, make sure the Bios is correct for the MOBO. Certain BIOS' are for specific PCB's. I prefer BIOS version 1006 myself, seems to be more stable. Slipperyseal
I tried voltages 2.6, 2.7, and 2.8. I also tried setting the timmings manually 5222 and 5322.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2004 Please make sure that you set the jumper setting from the default 1-2 to 2-3 and that you also put the memory modules on slot 2&3; have the latest BIOS for your MB installed, and load Setup/Optimized default settings and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200XL CPU Freq: 200 MHz (400 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz (400 FSB) Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T DDR Reference Voltage: 2.8 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
Slipperyseal
The bios settings you suggested did not work for me, it still boots into windows and i get black screens/reboots. However i did turn the fbs down to 166 and turned the multiplier up to get the same mhz, and the memory did work. It might be something with my motherboard not supporting 200 fsb right, maybe only the revision 2.0 version of the motherboard works with 200 fbs. I did change the jumper setting when i used 200 fbs but i had the same problem. What should i do?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2005 I would flash my BIOS to the latest one, I believe you have 1007 version, so I would definitely check with the MB manufacturer if they have a newer BIOS than the one that you currently have. Slipperyseal
i checked, i got the 1009 beta bios. I still have the same problem, i read some boards and people say that the older revisions (before 2.0) can only handle 180 fsb. Anything above that with this type of ram and you get problems.
