how "low-level" is the key-remapping of the strafe

Hi.

I was wondering how "low-level" the key-remapping

functionality of the strafe is (the non-RGB one). I'm not

interested in complicated macros I just want to be able

to remap freely single characters to keys (say, having the

"t"-key produce the "r" character). That's because I want

to be able to customize controls even in games that do not

allow key-remapping. Usually I do this via registry-hacking

but, although it works flawlessly with some games, there are

many others that seem to "tap" to the input at a lower level

than that, thus "sidestepping" the remapping at registry level.

So, basically what I'm asking is whether or not the remapping

functionality of the strafe(+CUE) is completely transparent

to all games (if the remapping is implemented at Direct X

DirectInput level then it should do the trick, I guess)

Thanks

john

As far as I know remapping should work just fine, I use it myself in several games. Though the games I use are all single player ones, nothing online. The ones online most likely have some kind of protection against macros and remap in general.

As I said, I'm just interested in basic, single key remapping (the one that should be provided by the game itself...but sadly often isn't), no multi-key macro of any kind. And I play almost exclusively single-player games. But I'm afraid that if online games are actually able to negate even the single-key remapping feature of the strafe then obviously also single-player games would be able to do so and therefore that functionality is clearly not what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Yes, I was talking about single key remap and not multi-key macros. As I said I use those myself just fine with my games.

The multiplayer games bit was just a warning in case you play those too since a few peoples on this forum have mentioned having issues with both macros and simple remaps. Thought I believe the remaps were on the mouse and not on the keyboard itself. There is no way to be 100% sure unless you try yourself I guess, but there should be a high chance it will work just fine. At least based on my own experience.

What are the games that you've found to be compatible with the remapping feature? (If you're comfortable sharing this info, of course).

Here's a list of some that I played recently where I used the remap feature:

  • Assassins Creed Syndicate
  • Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Dragon Quest Heroes
  • Far Cry 4
  • Fallout 4
  • The Witcher 3
  • Valkyria Chronicles

I tend to use the remap function in CUE to change the mapping rather than change the settings in the game itself. This way I can bring the profile on my laptop if I need to, and it still saves my configuration in case I format :p:

May I ask a question?

Does the remapping still take full effect if CUE is not enabled? (e.g. in the motherboard BIOS or in windows safe mode?)

No, it is CUE that handles everything while running in background. If CUE is not running it won't work.
