macattak1
Greetings, I am building 4 systems. Bought 4 x GA-8i915p Duo-A Bought 4 x Corsair VS1GBKIT400 I can boot with one Stick in DDR1 in #2 slot, but get long repetative beeps with slots 2 and 4 in. 1&3 are DDRII slots #1 and #2. 2&4 are DDRI slots #1 and #2. Again, I can boot with one DDRI in, but not two sticks. Is this memory capable of Dual Channel operations? I can not find anything either way on the web site. Wired
does that problem happen on all 4?
macattak1
I have HW built 4, wired 2, and SW built 2. Single stick will boot in both. Double stick gives long beep post in both (per book DRAM error). Set memory to +1, +2, +3 and long beep post. I have Flashed one bios with latest from site Gigabyte site. Pushed the Mem voltage +1, +2, +3 but will not even post now. Still boots 1 stick fine. Installed the MB drivers from CD thinking maybe I forgot something. Usually only have to do this for Lan drivers to get on net, maybe. Had no effect. Really Bumed. From everything I got from Neweggs.com's site and Corsair this memory should be Dual Channell. Of course, the memory box states nothing either way and the Corsair site does not verify either way. But it states that the dual stick kit will work with this board and the board is 2xddr and 2xddr2... Again, I can boot with one DDRI in, but not two sticks. Is this memory capable of Dual Channel operations? I can not find anything either way on the web site.
macattak1
Corsair Tech Support hung up on me when I called. The girl was rude and before I could explain more than about 10 words I just heard a click. Aoubt 60 min before they closed... Tried again and left messages. Not sure if I will ever get a call back. But they tout this site so much. Like it will answer all my questions. Be better if their site stated if this memory was Dual Channel or not. By the fact that they recomend it for a MB that only has 2 DDR slots and they offer a dual stick pack I would have to beleive it is? But they dont confirm. Bueler? Bueler? CMC_SAVAGE
By any chance are you mixing the RAM from different packs? In a nutshell the VSKITS are the VS version of the TWINX. (almost) Any RAM should run DC as long as it's "exactly" the same. Is there a BIOS option for DDR1 or DDR2? I'm not familiar with this MOBO, sorry. RAM GUY will be back tomorrow. macattak1
Thanks. They came in pack of 2 and I built them one at a time. They all started out the same. Beyond that, they all have same lot numbers and such, no differentiating marks between them. MB has auto detect and detected them as DDR-400, as they are. I think they should run Dual Chan too. But between Corsair and Gigabyte I am not able to get this resolved. Hope to this week.
Wired
FYI, memory is neither single nor dual channel, memory controllers control that, which are located on the chipset or CPU depending on the architecture. The TwinX packs are tested in dual channel config to ensure the timings, the VS are not. Just to clarify everything so far, you are building 4 systems, each consisting of: Motherboard: GA-8i915p Duo-A Memory: Corsair VS1GBKIT400 NONE of the 4 systems will boot with 2 sticks in them. They will all boot with one stick. Correct so far? Also, you talked to someone there today? That's odd considering they're closed on the weekends... macattak1
I called and spoke to them on Friday before 5:30 pst. :) Just to clarify everything so far, you are building 4 systems, each consisting of: Motherboard: GA-8i915p Duo-A (correct) Memory: Corsair VS1GBKIT400 (Correct) NONE of the 4 systems will boot with 2 sticks in them. They will all boot with one stick. (I have now fully built 3 of the 4 and none will boot with 2 sticks) They all have thier matched mate from the two stick pack in the MB. I.e. I did not mix them up) Calling Corsair now and their sales number (was calling by accident) and tech number are both busy??? :sigh!: Both 800 numbers... macattak1
What is the speed of this Ram? CAS?
Yellowbeard
Very odd but, I have never had any problems running the VS memory in dual channel MOBOs. Do you have any way of identifying which bios your MOBO has? If it is not the latest, I would boot and run a single stick and flash 1 of the MOBOs to the latest bios. Then, you can see if that will help. My suspicion is that the MOBOs cannot run the memory properly in this configuration of mixed DDR1 and DDR2 slots. I would definitely contact Gigabyte on this one. However, everyone here will help in any way we can. Please let us know how it goes. Mike.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2004 First thing, our phone # is 888-222-4346, and if you choose option “3” that will take you right to Tech support. Second, if the system will post with any of the modules one up but will not post when 2 are installed, that would suggest either a bios problem (Maybe not new enough for the Core of CPU you have) or there is a hardware problem with the MB. Since you have more than one MB doing the same thing I would suspect a bios update may solve the issue. Have you checked with the MB maker for the latest bios? And can you test the modules in another MB?
macattak1
I have flashed one of the MB's and I receive the same problem. I can boot with 1 stick but not 2. Long repetative beeps per MB manual is dram error. I have spoken to Gigabyte and I have adjusted the voltage from +1 to +3. I have tried the CAS 2.5-3-3-8, 2.5-4-4-8, 3.0-3-3-8, 3.0-4-4-8. I have 4 machines that run 512 auto detect ram at 400mhz. #1 updated bios to no effect. #various range of voltage and CAS and can not boot with 2 sticks in Orange #2 and #4 slots. None will not boot with one stick in #2 slot, though I dont think it should... Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2004 I would check with the MB maker for the correct slots too use, but if you can test the modules in another make and model of MB that may help isolate the problem. Yellowbeard
Are there any turbo or performance type settings that are enabled? In some cases, even with dual channel MOBOs, if these settings are enabled the system will post and run with 1 stick but not 2. Just to fall back on RAM GUYs last response, is there any way you can check the RAM in another system? Also, can you run Memtest on the system with the most recent bios on it? I would suggest that you test each individual stick, for 1 pass of Memtest on that MOBO with the latest bios. This is tedious and a PITA ( Pain In The Posterior Region) but, it would be helpful make sure that you don't have any bad RAM there. If we can eliminate this 1 variable, it may help in deciding what to do next. Also, there are lots of great guys, much smarter than me, over http://www.houseofmobos.com . We'd be glad to spread the word and try to help you over there also. Just register and post a link to this thread and we will do what we can. Good luck, Mike. EDIT: I feel stupid for not asking this already. What power supply do you have? And, do you have 4 identical PSUs in the 4 systems you are building. This could very easily be a power issue.
