Coup27
Hi, I got one of these for Xmas because of the advertised write speeds of 170MB/s but I am struggling to get it to do more than 100MB/s. I have an i5 Haswell with an Asus H87I-PLUS mobo, 8GB of RAM and a Samsung 850 EVO. I'm still on Windows 7 for now but I have installed Asus AI Suite 3 which has a USB 3 boost module in it which enables either turbo mode or UASP but there is no option for UASP, only turbo mode. In normal mode I get reads of ~300MB/s and writes of ~100MB/s but in turbo mode I get reads of ~400MB/s and writes of ~100MB/s. Interesting that the reads in turbo mode are 100MB/s more than the advertised speed. The writes aren't improving though. Any ideas? Thanks. Administrators Technobeard Posted December 28, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 28, 2015 How are you measuring the speeds, and which Voyager GS 64 GB do you have: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/flash-voyager-gs-usb-3-0-64gb-flash-drive or http://www.corsair.com/en-us/flash-voyager-gs-usb-3-0-64gb-flash-drive-b
Coup27
I am using the latest version of CrystalDiskMark but I also copied a 15GB file from my SSD to the flash drive in Windows and after settling down it averaged out to around 100MB/s as well. I have the version with the LED indicator, so the second link you posted. I just hooked up my old 840 EVO SSD in a USB3 to SATA adatper and ran CDM on that and got over 200MB/s for the write speed so I know there is nothing wrong with my USB3 hardware. Coup27
I just did a clean install of Windows 10 on my spare 840 EVO SSD. I installed all the latest drivers from Intel, NVIDIA and Asus. I then did all the Windows updates. Running the latest version of CDM gives 384MB/s reads and 102MB/s writes on the sequential scores. I really don't know what else I can do to reach the advertised write speed of 170MB/s.
Toasted
Give these modded drivers a go and see whether it improves your results. http://www.win-raid.com/t834f25-USB-Drivers-original-and-modded.html Note: If i recall correctly, these drivers are modded to work in the newer Windows Operating systems. Corsair may not provide any proper support if you choose to use them.
Coup27
I updated my Windows 7 SSD installation USB3 drivers from 2.5.0.19 to 4.0.3.49 from the Win-Raid forums (using the official drivers) and there was no change in performance. I can't get the modded 4.0.3.49 drivers to install on Windows 10. Well I can, but then all my USB port stop working. Looks like I am not the only one with this problem either as there's at least 2 more people in the thread posting about it. If we work out what the problem is I'll post an update Either way, these drivers are not "official" as they have been modified to work on Windows 10 so Corsair could not possibly have tested this product with them knowing that 99.9% of users will be using the Microsoft USB3 driver. It's just looking like this product cannot meet it's advertised write speed.
Toasted
What motherboard are you using? Is it also on the latest BIOS version? Have you put in a ticket to Corsair's technical support department yet?
Coup27
ASUS H87I-PLUS. BIOS is up to date. I managed to get those modded drivers installed. When updating the controller it instantly breaks the link between the controller and the hub. With the use of a PS/2 mouse I then updated the hub and the ports were working again. I ran CDM using these drivers and the speeds were the same. I haven't opened a ticket yet, I'll wait until next week now.
